Abstract

A handheld computing device for editing images and a method thereof. The handheld computing device can include a screen, a memory for storing an application for at least one of image acquisition, image uploading, and image editing, and a processor. The handheld computing device can receive a notification message from a first external device over a communication network, the notification message containing location information for accessing a specific image, the location information indicating an internet-address of the specific image, access the specific image by using the location information, display the specific image on the screen, and perform an image editing option on the screen to edit the displayed specific image based on the application stored in the memory. Also, the image editing option can include a selection function to determine a portion of the specific image to be edited by selecting at least one position of an upper left corner and a lower right corner of an expandable window on the displayed specific image.

Claims (27)

1. A handheld computing device supporting a removable media, the handheld computing device comprising:

a screen;

a memory configured to store an application for at least one of image acquisition, image uploading, and image editing; and

a processor configured to:

receive a notification message from a first external device over an Internet network, the notification message containing location information for accessing a specific image, the location information indicating an internet-address of the specific image,

access the specific image by using the location information,

display the specific image on the screen,

perform an image editing option on the screen to edit the displayed specific image based on the application stored in the memory, wherein the image editing option includes a selection function to determine a portion of the specific image to be edited by selecting at least one position of an upper left corner and a lower right corner of an expandable window on the displayed specific image, and

transmit another notification message to a party other than a user of the handheld computing device over the Internet network, wherein said notification message includes a URL that allows the party to view the edited image on-line using a web browser.

2. The handheld computing device of claim 1 , wherein the processor changes a rectangular window for cropping the displayed specific image into a square window for cropping the displayed specific image if a square option is selected among multiple cropping options.

3. The handheld computing device of claim 2 , wherein both the rectangular window and the square window are able to be resized and repositioned by the processor.

4. The handheld computing device of claim 1 , wherein the handheld computing device communicates with the first external device and the second external device over a same communication network.

5. The handheld computing device of claim 3 , wherein the removable media corresponds to a memory card.

6. The handheld computing device of claim 5 , wherein the notification message is displayed by using an e-mail application stored in the memory of the handheld computing device.

7. A method of controlling a handheld computing device, the method comprising:

storing an application for at least one of image acquisition, image uploading, and image editing in a memory;

receiving a notification message from a first external device over an Internet network, the notification message containing location information for accessing a specific image, the location information indicating an internet-address of the specific image;

accessing the specific image by using the location information;

displaying the specific image on a screen;

performing an image editing option on the screen to edit the displayed specific image based on the application stored in the memory, wherein the image editing option includes a selection function to determine a portion of the specific image to be edited by selecting at least one position of an upper left corner and a lower right corner of an expandable window on the displayed specific image; and

transmitting another notification message to a party other than a user of the handheld computing device over the Internet network, wherein said notification message includes a URL that allows the party to view the edited image on-line using a web browser.

8. The method of claim 7 , further comprising:

changing a rectangular window for cropping the displayed specific image into a square window for cropping the displayed specific image if a square option is selected among multiple cropping options.

9. The method of claim 8 , wherein both the rectangular window and the square window are able to be resized and repositioned.

10. The method of claim 7 , wherein the handheld computing device communicates with the first external device and the second external device over a same communication network.

11. The method of claim 9 , wherein the memory comprises a removable media, further the removable media corresponds to a memory card.

12. The method of claim 11 , wherein the notification message is displayed by using an e-mail application stored in the memory of the handheld computing device.
