Abstract

Systems and methods for dynamically adjusting an input parameter, such as power supply level, to a shared power domain in a portable computing device are disclosed. The power domain includes a plurality of processing resources that share the power source. The power supply level is reduced based on a critical core vote pool derived from votes from the plurality of processing resources. The critical core vote pool is narrowed from all the votes by disqualifying votes based on the operating status of the associated processing resources. For example, because inactive processing resources may be unaffected by a change in the voltage level to the shared domain, and because certain active processing resources are in a position to adjust to a power change dictated by another processing resource, such processing resources may be considered noncritical and their votes disqualified from consideration.

turning off a sensor that is associated with a processing component that is active and bypassing sensor signals from the sensor associated with the active processing component;

based on the critical core vote pool, identifying a vote that indicates a least amount of adjustment to the voltage level; and adjusting the voltage level based on the identified vote.

5. The method of claim 1 , wherein disqualifying votes from processing components that are active comprises disqualifying a vote from a processing component having a current operating frequency that is less than its maximum operating frequency.

6. The method of claim 1 , wherein the portable computing device is in the form of a mobile phone.

7. A system for dynamically controlling a power domain in a portable computing device, the power domain including a plurality of processing components that share a power source, the system comprising:

a controller configured to:

receive votes from the plurality of processing components, wherein a vote indicates an adjustment to a voltage level from the power source;
