Abstract

Certain features relate to unequal distribution of transmitters and receivers in a distributed antenna system (DAS). Remote units in the DAS can be configured as transmitting remote units, receiving remote units, or remote transceiver units that can transmit and receive wireless signals. In some configurations, the DAS can be configured with a greater number of transmitting remote units than receiving remote units. In other configurations, the DAS can be configured with a greater number of receiving remote units. In some aspects, unequal distribution of transmitters and receivers can be obtained by allocation of transmission frequencies and receiver frequencies in the DAS.

Claims (37)

transmitting, by the first set of remote units, the downlink signals to a coverage area;

receiving, at the central unit, uplink signals transmitted by user equipment devices from a second set of remote units of the distributed antenna system, the first set of remote units being different in number than the second set of remote units;

wherein at least one of:

a remote unit of the first set of remote units is configured for only transmitting wireless signals in the coverage area; or

a remote unit of the second set of remote units is configured for only receiving wireless signals from the coverage area.

15. The method of claim 14 , wherein the first set of remote units and the second set of remote units independently and directly communicate with the central unit.
