Abstract

The present invention relates to pharmaceutical compositions comprising a combination of a therapeutically-effective amount of the antiviral compound valaciclovir and a therapeutically-effective amount of the COX-2 inhibitor meloxicam. The invention is further related to methods of treating functional somatic syndromes by administering a therapeutically-effective combination of valaciclovir and meloxicam.

Claims (13)

1. A method to treat fibromyalgia, the method comprising:

administering to a subject in need thereof a therapeutically-effective combination of valacyclovir and meloxicam,

wherein each of valacyclovir and meloxicam is administered in an amount in combination effective to treat the fibromyalgia.

2. The method of claim 1 wherein the amount of valacyclovir is administered in a total daily dose range from about 750 mg to about 3000 mg, and wherein the amount of meloxicam is administered in a total daily dose range from about 7.5 mg to about 30 mg.

3. The method of claim 2 , wherein the amount of valacyclovir is administered in a total daily dose range from about 750 mg to about 1500 mg, and wherein the amount of meloxicam is administered in a total daily dose range from about 7.5 mg to about 15 mg.

4. The method of claim 2 , wherein the amount of valacyclovir is administered in a total daily dose range from about 1500 mg to about 3000 mg, and wherein the amount of meloxicam is administered in a total daily dose range from about 15 mg to about 30 mg.

5. The method of claim 3 , wherein the amount of valacyclovir is administered in a total daily dose range from about 750 mg to about 1000 mg.

6. The method claim 2 , wherein the amount of valacyclovir is administered in a total daily dose of about 750 mg, about 1000 mg, about 1250 mg, or about 1500 mg, and wherein the amount of meloxicam is administered in a total daily dose of about 7.5 mg, about 15 mg, or about 30 mg.

7. The method of claim 2 , wherein a unit dose of valacyclovir is administered two or three times per day, and wherein a unit dose of meloxicam is administered two or three times per day.

8. The method of claim 1 , wherein the wherein the fibromyalgia manifests as a symptom selected from the group consisting of chronic fatigue, irritable bowel, chronic pain, chronic depression, chronic clinical anxiety, brain fog, cognitive dysfunction, and chronic interstitial cystitis.

9. The method of claim 8 , wherein the wherein the fibromyalgia manifests as irritable bowel.

10. The method of claim 8 , wherein the wherein the fibromyalgia manifests as chronic fatigue.

11. The method of claim 8 , wherein the chronic pain is selected from the group consisting of chronic headache, chronic neck pain, and chronic back pain.
