Abstract

Embodiments related to a restricted-use authentication code are disclosed. One disclosed embodiment provides a method of generating a representation of a restricted-use authentication code for detection by another computing device to authenticate the other computing device to a remote service. The method includes receiving authentication information, the authentication information comprising a restricted-use authentication code and generating a representation of the authentication information. The method further includes presenting the representation of the authentication information to a sensor system of the other computing device for authentication.

Claims (14)

1. On a mobile device, a method of generating a representation of a restricted-use authentication code for detection by another computing device to perform an authentication process, the method comprising:

receiving, at the mobile device, from a remote service, a restricted-use authentication code for authenticating the other computing device as being associated with a user;

receiving, at the mobile device, via an input mechanism for the mobile device, user-input data for a setup of the other computing device, the user-input data comprising setup information usable to set up the other computing device;

after receiving the authentication code and the user-input data, generating, at the mobile device, a representation of the authentication code and the user-input data comprising the setup information, the representation comprising an optically readable tag; and

after generating the representation of the authentication code and the user-input data, presenting, at the mobile device, the representation of the authentication code and the user-input data comprising the setup information to a sensor system of the other computing device for authentication.

2. The method of claim 1 , wherein receiving user-input data comprises receiving a user input of remote service account information, and sending a request for the restricted-use authentication code to the remote service along with the remote service account information before receiving the authentication code.

3. The method of claim 2 , wherein receiving the user input of remote service account information further comprises receiving a user input of wireless settings information usable to wirelessly connect the other computing device to a network, and wherein the authentication code comprises the wireless settings information.

4. The method of claim 1 , wherein the authentication code comprises information relating to an item purchased by a user.

5. The method of claim 1 , wherein the representation of the authentication code and the user-input data comprises an audio representation.

6. The method of claim 1 , wherein the representation of the authentication code and the user-input data comprises an image representation.

7. The method of claim 6 , wherein the image representation comprises an optically readable tag.

8. The method of claim 7 , wherein the optically readable tag comprises a graphical code.

9. The method of claim 7 , wherein the optically readable tag comprises one or more alphanumeric characters.

10. The method of claim 1 , further comprising associating the mobile device with the other computing device in response to authenticating the other computing device to the remote service.
