Trigger mechanism for a firearm
A trigger mechanism for a firearm provides modified and/or adjustable trigger pull length, reduced sear pressure, reduced reset trigger slap, and/or improved engagement of the trigger safety.
1. A trigger mechanism for a firearm receiver, the trigger mechanism having a safe mode and a normal mode and comprising:
a trigger element comprising:
a sear arm;
a trigger sear extending from the sear arm; and
a first wall and a second wall, the sear arm extending from the first wall, the second wall comprising an upwards protruding portion; and
a safety mechanism comprising a pivoting lever;
wherein the upwards protruding portion is configured to selectively engage the pivoting lever when the trigger mechanism is in the safe mode; and
wherein the upwards protruding portion of the trigger element comprises a pin extending above the second wall.
2. The trigger mechanism of claim 1 , wherein the upwards protruding portion of the trigger element comprises a screw extending above the second wall.
3. The trigger mechanism of claim 1 , wherein the upwards protruding portion is adjustable in height above the second wall.
4. The trigger mechanism of claim 3 , wherein the upwards protruding portion height is determined by a length of the pivoting lever.
5. The trigger mechanism of claim 1 , wherein the trigger element is prevented from rotating forward when the trigger mechanism is in the safe mode.
6. The trigger mechanism of claim 1 , wherein the second wall further comprises a cavity defined by a housing, wherein the cavity is aligned with the pivoting lever, and wherein the cavity is configured to receive at least a portion of the upwards protruding portion.
7. The trigger mechanism of claim 6 , wherein the housing is integral with the second wall.
8. The trigger mechanism of claim 1 , wherein the trigger element further comprises a receiver interface, wherein the receiver interface is configured to contact the firearm receiver so as to dictate a degree of forward rotation of the trigger element.
9. The trigger mechanism of claim 8 , wherein the receiver interface is adjustable.
10. The trigger mechanism of claim 8 , wherein the receiver interface is disposed on the sear arm opposite the trigger sear.
11. The trigger mechanism of claim 1 , wherein the trigger sear comprises a hammer engagement surface and a hammer engagement edge at a rear of the hammer engagement surface, wherein the hammer engagement edge is a rearward most edge of the trigger sear.
12. The trigger mechanism of claim 11 , wherein the trigger element further comprises a receiver interface, wherein the hammer engagement surface has a width that is greater than a width of the receiver interface.
13. The trigger mechanism of claim 12 , wherein the hammer engagement surface width exceeds the receiver interface width by at least 1 mm.
14. The trigger mechanism of claim 12 , wherein the hammer engagement surface width is in a range from about 4.5 mm to about 5.5 mm.
15. The trigger mechanism of claim 12 , wherein the hammer engagement surface width is about 5 mm and the receiver interface width is about 3 mm.
16. The trigger mechanism of claim 1 , wherein the trigger element further comprises a bow extending from a base positioned between the first and second walls.
17. The trigger mechanism of claim 1 , wherein the upward protruding portion is disposed opposite of the sear arm.
18. A firearm comprising the trigger mechanism of claim 1 .
