Abstract

Collapsible combustion containers are disclosed and described. Such combustion containers generally include a plurality of vertically oriented panels joined by hinges. The hinges include hinge pins that can be configured to form at least part of a base that supports the container or at least part of a heating platform above the container or both. Further, the panels can contain one or more fuel openings which allow a user to control placement of fuel in the container inserted from each opening so as to select a point inside the container where the fuel will converge and combust.

Claims (46)

1. An apparatus, comprising:

a first panel and a second panel being coupled by a first hinge;

a third panel coupled to the second panel via a second hinge;

a fourth panel coupled to the third panel via a third hinge and coupled to the first panel via a fourth hinge; and

a support pin including a medial portion, the first panel having an opening configured to receive a first portion of the support pin in an configuration of the apparatus and the second panel having an opening configured to receive open a second portion of the support pin in the open configuration, the support pin further including a retention portion configured to enable coupling of the support pin to at least one of the first, second, third or fourth panels in a closed configuration of the apparatus, the support pin further including an extension portion that extends further from the medial portion that the retention portion extends from the medial portion, wherein the support pin in the open configuration is oriented with the extension portion extending downward.

2. The apparatus of claim 1 , wherein the retention portion includes a bend.

3. The apparatus of claim 1 , wherein the retention portion has a hook shape.

4. The apparatus of claim 1 , wherein the retention portion is aligned along a first plane and the extension portion is aligned along a second plane substantially orthogonal to the first plane.

5. The apparatus of claim 1 , wherein the support pin is aligned at a non-zero angle with respect to the first panel when disposed in the opening.

6. The apparatus of claim 1 , wherein the first panel includes a plurality of ventilation openings.

7. The apparatus of claim 1 , further comprising:

a hinge pin included in the first hinge, the hinge pin configured to at least define part of a base configured to support the first panel or define at least part of a heating platform disposed above the first panel.

8. The apparatus of claim 1 , further comprising:

a fuel opening included in the third panel and facing a plurality of ventilation openings included in the first panel, the fuel opening having an area larger than an area of each of the plurality of ventilation openings.

9. The apparatus of claim 1 , wherein the second panel includes a relief space feature.

10. An apparatus, comprising:

a first panel;

a second panel coupled to the first panel via a first hinge;

a third panel coupled to the second panel via a second hinge;

a fourth panel coupled to the third panel via a third hinge and coupled to the first panel via a fourth hinge;

a first support pin configured to be coupled to the first panel in an open configuration of the apparatus; and

a second support pin configured to be coupled to the third panel in the open configuration;

at least one of the first and second support pins including a medial portion and a retention portion, the retention portion configured to enable coupling of the first or second support pin to at least one of the first, second, third or fourth panels in a closed configuration of the apparatus, the first or second support pin further including an extension portion that extends further from the medial portion that the retention portion extends from the medial portion, wherein the first or second support pin in the open configuration is oriented with the extension portion extending downward.

11. The apparatus of claim 10 , wherein the retention portion is aligned along a first plane and the extension portion is aligned along a second plane substantially orthogonal to the first plane.

12. The apparatus of claim 10 , wherein the support pin is aligned non-parallel to the first panel when disposed in an opening within the first panel.

13. The apparatus of claim 10 , wherein the second panel includes a plurality of ventilation openings.

14. The apparatus of claim 10 , further comprising:

a hinge pin having a portion disposed in a portion of the first panel and a portion of the second panel to define the first hinge,

the hinge pin including a platform segment and a support segment,

the platform segment being aligned non-parallel to the portion of the hinge pin disposed in the portion of the first panel and the portion of the second panel via a first bend,

the support segment being aligned non-parallel to the portion of the hinge pin disposed in the portion of the first panel and the portion of the second panel via a second bend, and

the hinge pin including a third bend disposed between the first bend and second bend.

15. The apparatus of claim 10 , further comprising:

a fuel opening included in the third panel and facing a ventilation opening included in the first panel.

16. The apparatus of claim 15 , wherein an area of the ventilation opening is smaller than an area of the fuel opening.

17. The apparatus of claim 10 , wherein the second panel includes a relief space feature.

18. An apparatus, comprising:

a first panel;

a second panel coupled to the first panel via a first hinge;

a third panel coupled to the second panel via a second hinge;

a fourth panel coupled to the third panel via a third hinge and coupled to the first panel via a fourth hinge;

a first support pin configured to be coupled to the first panel and the second panel in an open configuration of the apparatus; and

a second support pin configured to be coupled to the third panel and the fourth panel in the open configuration;

at least one of the first and second support pins including a medial portion and a retention portion, the retention portion configured to enable coupling of the first or second support pin to at least one of the first, second, third or fourth panels in a closed configuration of the apparatus, the first or second support pin further including an extension portion that extends further from the medial portion that the retention portion extends from the medial portion, wherein the first or second support pin in the open configuration is oriented with the extension portion extending downward.

19. The apparatus of claim 18 , wherein at least one of the first and second support pins includes a bend aligned along a first plane and includes a hook shape aligned along a second plane different from the first plane.

20. The apparatus of claim 18 , wherein the first support pin is aligned parallel to the second support pin when the first support pin is coupled to the first panel and the second panel and the second support pin is coupled to the third panel and the fourth panel.
