Abstract

Certain embodiments are directed to methods and compositions for treating obesity, diabetes, and/or cancer with a combination of ursolic acid and resveratrol.

Claims (19)

1. A method for treating obesity comprising administering an effective amount of ursolic acid and an effective amount of resveratrol to an obese subject, wherein the ratio of ursolic acid to resveratrol is the range of 3:1 to 1:3.

2. The method of claim 1 , wherein ursolic acid is administered at a dose of between 200 and 400 mg/day.

3. The method of claim 1 , wherein resveratrol is administered at a dose of between 200 and 600 mg/day.

4. The method of claim 1 , wherein ursolic acid and resveratrol are formulated as a tablet, a capsule, a concentrate, a powder, a drink, a baked good, chocolate, caramel, and/or snack.

5. The method of claim 1 , wherein ursolic acid is administered prior to administration of resveratrol.

6. The method of claim 1 , wherein ursolic acid is administered concurrently with resveratrol.

7. The method of claim 6 , wherein ursolic acid and resveratrol are administered in the same composition.

8. The method of claim 1 , wherein ursolic acid is administered after administration of resveratrol.

9. The method of claim 1 , wherein ursolic acid is administered within 1 day of resveratrol.

10. The method of claim 1 , wherein ursolic acid and resveratrol are administered orally.

11. The method of claim 1 , wherein ursolic acid and resveratrol are administered once a day.

12. The method of claim 1 , wherein the subject has a body mass index (BMI) of 30 or greater.

13. The method of claim 1 , wherein the subject is diagnosed with pre-diabetes.

14. A method for treating diabetes or pre-diabetes comprising administering an effective amount of ursolic acid and an effective amount of resveratrol to a subject having diabetes or a pre-diabetic subject, wherein the ratio of ursolic acid to resveratrol is the range of 3:1 to 1:3.

15. The method of claim 14 , wherein ursolic acid is administered at a dose between 200 and 400 mg/day.

16. The method of claim 14 , wherein resveratrol is administered at a dose between 200 and 600 mg/day.

17. A method for treating skin or lung cancer comprising administering an effective amount of ursolic acid in combination with an effective amount of resveratrol, wherein the ratio of ursolic acid to resveratrol is the range of 3:1 to 1:3, to a subject having skin cancer.

18. The method of claim 17 , wherein ursolic acid is administered at a dose between 200 and 400 mg/day.

19. The method of claim 17 , wherein resveratrol is administered at a dose between 200 and 600 mg/day.
