Abstract

A modular fixture plate system comprising: at least one interlocking fixture plate comprising at least one of a male end and a female end, wherein the male end comprises at least one male projection and the female end comprises at least one female recess; and a docking plate comprising at least one of at least one male projection and at least one female recess; wherein at least one male projection or female recess of the at least one interlocking fixture plate is interlocked with a mating one of the at least one male projection or the at least one female recess of the docking plate.

Claims (22)

1. A modular fixture plate system comprising: an inspection or manufacturing machine; and at least one interlocking fixture plate comprising: at least one of a male end and a female end, wherein the male end comprises at least one male projection and the female end comprises at least one female recess; and a top surface having a plurality of holes formed therein disposed, the plurality of holes being arranged in a regular pattern, with the regular pattern of holes extending across substantially the entire top surface of the at least one interlocking fixture plate; and a docking plate comprising at least one of at least one male projection and at least one female recess; wherein at least one male projection or female recess of the at least one interlocking fixture plate is interlocked with a mating one of the at least one male projection or the at least one female recess of the docking plate; wherein at least one hold down is mounted in at least one of the plurality of holes and used to secure a workpiece to the interlocking fixture plate.

2. The modular fixture plate system according to claim 1 wherein the at least one interlocking fixture plate comprises a male end and a female end.

3. The modular fixture plate system according to claim 1 wherein the male end comprises a plurality of male projections.

4. The modular fixture plate system according to claim 1 wherein the female end comprises a plurality of female recesses.

5. The modular fixture plate system according to claim 1 comprising a plurality of interlocking fixture plates.

6. The modular fixture plate system according to claim 1 wherein the docking plate comprises at least one male projection.

7. The modular fixture plate system according to claim 1 wherein the docking plate comprises a plurality of male projections.

8. The modular fixture plate system according to claim 1 wherein the docking plate comprises at least one female recess.

9. The modular fixture plate system according to claim 1 wherein the docking plate comprises a plurality of female recesses.

10. The modular fixture plate system according to claim 1 comprising a plurality of docking plates.

11. The modular fixture plate system according to claim 1 wherein the plurality of holes formed in the top surface of the at least one interlocking fixture plate comprises at least one threaded hole.

12. The modular fixture plate system according to claim 1 wherein the plurality of holes formed in the top surface of the at least one interlocking fixture plate comprises a plurality of threaded holes.

13. The modular fixture plate system according to claim 1 further comprising at least one magnet disposed on at least one of the least one interlocking fixture plate and the docking plate.

14. The modular fixture plate system according to claim 13 further comprising at least one magnet disposed on the least one interlocking fixture plate and at least one magnet disposed on the docking plate.

15. The modular fixture plate system according to claim 1 further comprising a base plate for attachment to a machine, wherein the base plate is configured to receive the least one interlocking fixture plate and the docking plate.

16. The modular fixture plate system according to claim 1 wherein the at least one male projection and the at least one female recess are formed in a dovetail configuration.

17. A modular fixture plate system for mounting an interlocking fixture plate to an inspection machine, the modular fixture plate system comprising: at least one interlocking fixture plate comprising: at least one of a male end and a female end, wherein the male end comprises at least one male projection and the female end comprises at least one female recess; a top surface having a plurality of holes formed therein, the plurality of holes being arranged in a regular pattern, with the regular pattern of holes extending across substantially the entire top surface of the at least one interlocking fixture plate; a docking plate comprising: at least one of at least one male projection and at least one female recess; and at least one mounting hole formed in the docking plate and configured for mounting the docking plate to the inspection machine;

wherein the at least one male projection or female recess of the at least one interlocking fixture plate is interlocked with a mating one of the at least one male projection or the at least one female recess of the docking plate; wherein at least one hold down is mounted in at least one of the plurality of holes and used to secure a workpiece to the interlocking fixture plate.

18. A method for positioning a workpiece during a manufacturing and/or inspection process, the method comprising: providing a modular fixture plate system comprising: an inspection or manufacturing machine; and at least one interlocking fixture plate comprising: at least one of a male end and a female end, wherein the male end comprises at least one male projection and the female end comprises at least one female recess; and a top surface having a plurality of holes formed therein, the plurality of holes being arranged in a regular pattern, with the regular pattern extending across substantially the entire top surface of the at least one interlocking fixture plate; and a docking plate comprising at least one of at least one male projection and at least one female recess; interlocking at least one male projection or female recess of the at least one interlocking fixture plate with a mating one of the at least one male projection or the at least one female recess of the docking plate so as to stabilize the at least one interlocking fixture plate relative to the docking plate; mounting at least one hold-down to at least one of the plurality of holes disposed in the at least one interlocking fixture plate; and positioning a workpiece on the at least one interlocking fixture plate and securing the workpiece to the at least one interlocking fixture plate using the at least one hold-down.

19. A method for positioning a workpiece during a manufacturing and/or inspection process, the method comprising: providing a modular fixture plate system for mounting an interlocking fixture plate to a manufacturing or inspection machine, the modular fixture plate system comprising: at least one interlocking fixture plate comprising: at least one of a male end and a female end, wherein the male end comprises at least one male projection and the female end comprises at least one female recess; a top surface having a plurality of holes formed therein, the plurality of holes being arranged in a regular pattern, with the regular pattern of holes extending across substantially the entire top surface of the at least one interlocking fixture plate; a docking plate comprising: at least one of at least one male projection and at least one female recess; and at least one mounting hole formed in the docking plate and configured for mounting the docking plate to the manufacturing or inspection machine; wherein the at least one male projection or female recess of the at least one interlocking fixture plate is interlocked with a mating one of the at least one male projection or the at least one female recess of the docking plate; mounting the docking plate to the manufacturing or inspection machine by passing a fastener through the at least one mounting hole formed in the docking plate; interlocking the at least one interlocking fixture plate with the docking plate; mounting at least one hold-down to at least one of the plurality of holes disposed in the at least one interlocking fixture plate; and positioning a workpiece on the at least one interlocking fixture plate and securing the workpiece to the at least one interlocking fixture plate using the at least one hold-down.
