Abstract

The present invention relates to a method of transmitting and a method of receiving signals, and corresponding apparatus. One aspect of the present invention relates to a method of obtaining a field for indicating a time de-interleaving depth from a layer 1 (L1) header of preamble symbols.

Claims (55)

1. A method of transmitting a broadcast signal, the method comprising:

first encoding signaling data;

padding the first-encoded signaling data with zero bits, the zero bits filling information bits required for second encoding;

second encoding the padded signaling data by appending parity bits; and

puncturing a portion of the appended parity bits from the second-encoded signaling data and removing the padded zero bits to generate forward error correction (FEC)-encoded signaling data that is punctured and has zero bits removed;

mapping the FEC-encoded signaling data into signaling symbols that include channel bonding information;

third encoding data according to at least one code rate;

mapping the third-encoded data onto constellations according to a symbol mapping method that includes Non-uniform QAM (Quadrature amplitude modulation);

building a signal frame based on a preamble symbol including the FEC-encoded signaling data and data symbols including the third-encoded data;

modulating the signal frame according to an OFDM (Orthogonal Frequency Division Multiplexing) scheme; and

transmitting the broadcast signal carrying the modulated signal frame.

2. The method of claim 1 , wherein the channel bonding information includes information related to whether channel bonding is used for the signal frame.

3. The method of claim 1 , wherein the channel bonding information includes information related to a number of frequencies involved in channel bonding.

4. A method of receiving broadcast signals, the method comprising:

receiving a broadcast signal carrying a signal frame, the signal frame including a preamble symbol and data symbols;

demodulating the received broadcast signal based on an OFDM (Orthogonal Frequency Division Multiplexing) scheme;

demapping the preamble symbol into signaling data that includes channel bonding information;

padding the signaling data with zero bits;

de-puncturing parity bits of the signaling data;

first decoding the signaling data with the padded zero bits and the de-punctured parity bits;

removing a portion of the padded zero bits from the first-decoded signaling data;

second decoding the signaling data from which the portion of the padded zero-bits have been removed to generate forward error correction (FEC)-decoded signaling data;

demapping the data symbols into service data based on a symbol mapping method that includes Non-uniform QAM (Quadrature amplitude modulation); and

decoding the service data according to at least one code rate,

wherein the portion of the zero bits removed is calculated based on information bits required for the second decoding.

5. The method of claim 4 , wherein the channel bonding information includes information related to whether channel bonding is used for the signal frame.

6. The method of claim 4 , wherein the channel bonding information includes information related to a number of frequencies involved in channel bonding.

7. A transmitter for transmitting a broadcast signal, the transmitter comprising:

a first signaling encoder for encoding signaling data,

an inserter for padding the first-encoded signaling data with zero bits, the zero bits filling information bits required for second encoding;

a second signaling encoder for second encoding the padded signaling data by appending parity bits; and

a puncturer for puncturing a portion of the appended parity bits from the second-encoded signaling data and removing the padded zero bits generate forward error correction (FEC)-encoded signaling data that is punctured and has zero bits removed;

a first mapper for mapping the FEC-encoded signaling data into signaling symbols that include channel bonding information;

a third signaling encoder for third encoding data according to at least one code rate;

a second mapper for mapping the third-encoded data onto constellations according to a symbol mapping method that includes Non-uniform QAM (Quadrature amplitude modulation);

a frame builder for building a signal frame based on a preamble symbol including the FEC-encoded signaling data and data symbols including the third-encoded data;

a modulator for modulating the signal frame according to an OFDM (Orthogonal Frequency Division Multiplexing) scheme; and

a transmitter for transmitting the broadcast signal carrying the modulated signal frame.

8. The transmitter of claim 7 , wherein the channel bonding information includes information related to whether channel bonding is used for the signal frame.

9. The transmitter of claim 7 , wherein the channel bonding information includes information related to a number of frequencies involved in channel bonding.

10. A receiver for receiving a broadcast signal, the receiver comprising:

a signal receiver for receiving a broadcast signal carrying a signal frame, the signal frame including a preamble symbol and data symbols;

a demodulator for demodulating the received broadcast signal based on an OFDM (Orthogonal Frequency Division Multiplexing) scheme;

a first demapper for demapping the preamble symbol into signaling data that includes channel bonding information;

a signaling decoder for:

padding the signaling data with zero bits;

de-puncturing parity bits of the signaling data;

first decoding the signaling data with the padded zero bits and the de-punctured parity bits;

removing a portion of the padded zero bits from the first-decoded signaling data; and

second decoding the signaling data from which the portion of the padded zero-bits have been removed to generate forward error correction (FEC)-decoded signaling data;

a second demapper for demapping the data symbol into service data based on a symbol mapping method that includes Non-uniform QAM (Quadrature amplitude modulation); and
