Abstract

A radiating system configured to operate electromagnetic wave signals from first and second frequency regions, wherein the lowest frequency of the second frequency region is above the highest frequency of the first frequency region: the radiating system comprising a radiating structure, a radiofrequency system, and an external port. The radiating structure comprises a first boosting element electrically connected to a first conductive element, a second boosting element electrically connected to a second conductive element, and a ground plane layer. The radiofrequency system comprises a first matching network connected to the first conductive element and the external port, and a second matching network connected to the second conductive element and a ground port. The first and second matching networks are configured to modify the impedance of the radiating structure providing impedance matching to the radiating system, at the external port, in the first and second frequency regions.

Claims (19)

1. A wireless device comprising a radiating system configured to operate in first and second frequency regions of the electromagnetic spectrum, wherein a highest frequency of the first frequency region is below a lowest frequency of the second frequency region, the radiating system comprising:

a ground plane layer, wherein a ratio between a longest side of a ground plane rectangle encompassing the ground plane layer and a free-space wavelength corresponding to a lowest frequency of the first frequency region is not less than 0.1 and no greater than 0.35;

a first boosting element connected to a first conductive trace;

a second conductive trace;

an external port;

a radiofrequency system comprising a first matching network connected to the first conductive trace and the external port;

wherein the first boosting element has a maximum size at least smaller than 1/15 of the free-space wavelength corresponding to the lowest frequency of the first frequency region;

wherein each of the first and second conductive traces features an electrical length less than one fourth of the free-space wavelength corresponding to the lowest frequency of the first frequency region;

wherein the radiofrequency system is configured to provide impedance matching to the radiating system, at the external port, in the first and second frequency regions; and

wherein the first boosting element is adjacent to the second conductive trace such that a minimum distance between a point of the first boosting element and a point of the second conductive trace is no greater than 1% of the free-space wavelength corresponding to the lowest frequency of the first frequency region to cause parasitic interactions such that one of the first conductive trace and the second conductive trace acts as a driven element and the other of the first conductive trace and the second conductive trace acts as a parasitic element.

2. The wireless device according to claim 1 , wherein the ratio between the longest side of the ground plane rectangle encompassing the ground plane layer and the free-space wavelength corresponding to the lowest frequency of the first frequency region is no greater than 0.2.

3. The wireless device according to claim 1 , wherein the second conductive trace is connected to the ground plane layer.

4. The wireless device according to claim 3 , wherein the radiating system comprises a second boosting element connected to the second conductive trace having a maximum size at least smaller than 1/15 of the free-space wavelength corresponding to the lowest frequency of the first frequency region.

5. The wireless device according to claim 1 , wherein the radiofrequency system comprises a second matching network connected to the second conductive trace and the ground plane layer.

6. The wireless device according to claim 5 , wherein the radiating system comprises a second boosting element connected to the second conductive trace having a maximum size at least smaller than 1/15 of the free-space wavelength corresponding to the lowest frequency of the first frequency region.

7. The wireless device according to claim 1 , wherein the first frequency region comprises an 824-960MHz frequency range, and the second frequency region comprises a 1710-2170MHz frequency range.

8. The wireless device according to claim 3 , wherein the second conductive trace is connected to the radiofrequency system.

9. The wireless device according to claim 8 , wherein the second conductive trace is connected to a second matching network of the radiofrequency system.

10. The wireless device according to claim 3 , wherein the second conductive trace is connected to the radiofrequency system on a first end and a second boosting element on a second end.
