Abstract

A composite material for gas capture, notably CO 2 capture and storage. The composite material includes a mixture of a solid or liquid reactive filler and a gas-permeable polymer such that the reactive filler forms micron-scale domains in the polymer matrix.

Claims (15)

1. A method of making a reactor for removing carbon dioxide from a gas containing the carbon dioxide, comprising the steps of:

providing a sorbent material;

providing a gas-permeable polymer;

combining said sorbent material and said gas-permeable polymer to produce a 3-D ink;

using a 3-D print head of a 3-D printer to extrude said 3-D ink onto a surface;

controlling said 3-D print head to extrude said 3-D ink onto said surface to form a green form of the reactor; and

curing said green form of the reactor to produce the reactor.

2. The method of making a reactor for removing carbon dioxide from a gas containing the carbon dioxide of claim 1 wherein said step of providing a sorbent material comprises providing particles of carbon dioxide stripping material.

3. The method of making a reactor for removing carbon dioxide from a gas containing the carbon dioxide of claim 1 wherein said step of providing a sorbent material comprises providing particles of carbon dioxide stripping material encapsulated in capsules.

The method of making a reactor for removing carbon dioxide from a gas containing the carbon dioxide of claim 1 wherein said step of providing a sorbent material comprises providing particles of carbon dioxide stripping material encapsulated in spherical capsules that have a gas-permeable polymer surface layer encapsulating said particles of carbon dioxide stripping material.

5. The method of making a reactor for removing carbon dioxide from a gas containing the carbon dioxide of claim 1 wherein said step of providing a sorbent material comprises providing liquid units of carbon dioxide stripping material.

The method of making a reactor for removing carbon dioxide from a gas containing the carbon dioxide of claim 5 wherein said step of providing liquid units of carbon dioxide stripping material comprises providing solid units of carbon dioxide stripping material and hydrating said solid units of carbon dioxide stripping material to provide said liquid units of carbon dioxide stripping material.

7. The method of making a reactor for removing carbon dioxide from a gas containing the carbon dioxide of claim 1 wherein said step of providing a sorbent material comprises providing liquid droplets of carbon dioxide stripping material encapsulated in capsules.

The method of making a reactor for removing carbon dioxide from a gas containing the carbon dioxide of claim 1 wherein said step of providing a sorbent material comprises providing liquid droplets of carbon dioxide stripping material encapsulated in spherical capsules that have a gas-permeable polymer surface layer encapsulating said liquid droplets of carbon dioxide stripping material.

9. The method of making a reactor for removing carbon dioxide from a gas containing the carbon dioxide of claim 1 wherein said step of providing a gas-permeable polymer comprises providing uncured silicone.
