Dynamic function row customization
A device may include a dynamic function row (DFR) comprising a touchscreen. A device processor may operate a DFR agent controlling the DFR. The DFR agent may generate and/or select images to display on the DFR based on rules and/or contexts, and the DFR may display the images.
1. A method comprising:
displaying, by a main display of a device, a first user interface (UI) showing a second UI for display on a dynamic function row (DFR) of the device, the DFR comprising a touchscreen;
receiving, by an input device of the device, a customization for the second UI made through the first UI, wherein the customization is constrained by at least one rule;
generating, by a DFR agent of the device, an image of the a second UI that incorporates the customization according to the at least one rule; and
displaying, by the DFR, the image.
2. The method of claim 1 , wherein the second UI comprises at least one of a plurality of registered elements, each registered element being selected from at least one of a plurality of applications running on the device.
3. The method of claim 2 , wherein the customization for the second UI is made by dragging, by the input device, at least one registered element into a first UI area representing at least a portion of the second UI that causes the at least one registered element to remain in the first UI area after the dragging ceases.
4. The method of claim 2 , wherein the customization comprises a selection of one or more of the at least one of a plurality of registered elements, an arrangement of one or more of the at least one of the plurality of registered elements, a deletion of one or more of the at least one of the plurality of registered elements, or a combination thereof.
5. The method of claim 2 , wherein:
the first UI comprises a default set of registered elements; and
the customization comprises a selection of the default set of registered elements.
6. The method of claim 5 , wherein the customization comprises dragging, by the input device, the default set of registered elements, as a single selection, into a first UI area representing at least a portion of the second UI that causes the default set of registered elements to remain in the first UI area after the dragging ceases.
7. The method of claim 2 , wherein the customization comprises adding a space between at least two registered elements.
8. The method of claim 1 , further comprising rejecting, by the DFR agent, the customization in response to a determination that the customization violates at least one rule.
9. The method of claim 1 , further comprising processing a command from the input device of the device to drag the second UI from the first UI to the DFR prior to displaying the image.
10. The method of claim 9 , wherein the image of the second UI that incorporates the customization comprises at least one of a plurality of registered elements, each registered element being from at least one of a plurality of applications running on the device.
11. The method of claim 10 , wherein the command comprises a selection of one or more of the at least one of the plurality of registered elements, an arrangement of one or more of the at least one of the plurality of registered elements, a deletion of one or more registered elements, or a combination thereof.
12. The method of claim 10 , wherein:
the first UI comprises a default set of registered elements; and
the command comprises a selection of the default set of registered elements.
13. The method of claim 10 , wherein the command comprises adding a space between at least two registered elements.
14. The method of claim 1 , wherein the input device comprises the touchscreen of the DFR.
15. A device comprising:
a main display configured to display a first user interface (UI) showing a second UI;
a dynamic function row (DFR) comprising a touchscreen and configured to display the second UI;
an input device configured to receive a customization for the second UI made through the first UI, wherein the customization is constrained by at least one rule: and
at least one processor configured to generate, by a DFR agent, an image of the second UI that incorporates the customization according to the at least one rule, wherein the DFR is configured to display the image.
16. The device of claim 15 , wherein the second UI comprises at least one of a plurality of registered elements, each registered element being selected from at least one of a plurality of applications running on the device.
17. The device of claim 16 , wherein the customization for the second UI is made by dragging, by the input device, at least one registered element into a first UI area representing at least a portion of the second UI that causes the at least one registered element to remain in the first UI area after the dragging ceases.
18. The device of claim 16 , wherein the customization comprises a selection of one or more of the at least one of a plurality of registered elements, an arrangement of one or more of the at least one of the plurality of registered elements, a deletion of one or more of the at least one of the plurality of registered elements, or a combination thereof.
19. The device of claim 16 , wherein:
the first UI comprises a default set of registered elements; and
the customization comprises a selection of the default set of registered elements.
20. The device of claim 19 , wherein the customization comprises dragging, by the input device, the default set of registered elements, as a single selection, into a first UI area representing at least a portion of the second UI that causes the defulat set of registered elements to remain in the first UI area after the dragging ceases.
21. The device of claim 16 , wherein the customization comprises adding a space between at least two registered elements.
22. The device of claim 15 , wherein the at least one processor is further configured to reject, by the DFR agent, the customization in response to a determination that the customization violates at least one rule.
23. The device of claim 15 , wherein the at least one processor is further configured to process a command from the input device of the device to drag the second UI from the first UI to the DFR prior to displaying the image.
24. The device of claim 23 , wherein the image of the second UI that incorporates the customization comprises at least one of a plurality of registered elements, each registered element being from at least one of a plurality of applications running on the device.
25. The device of claim 24 , wherein the command comprises a selection of one or more of the at least one of the plurality of registered elements, an arrangement of one or more of the at least one of the plurality of registered elements, a deletion of one or more registered elements, or a combination thereof.
26. The device of claim 24 , wherein:
the first UI comprises a default set of registered elements; and
the command comprises a selection of the default set of registered elements.
27. The device of claim 24 , wherein the command comprises adding a space between at least two registered elements.
28. The device of claim 15 , wherein the input device comprises the touchscreen of the DFR.
