Abstract

A light emitting device includes a substrate, a light emitting element, a light transmissive member and a sealing member. The substrate has a first main surface, a second main surface that is opposite from the first main surface, and a mounting surface that is adjacent to at least the second main surface. The substrate includes an insulating base material, and a pair of connection terminals. The insulating base material defines a concave component opening on the second main surface and the mounting surface. The connection terminals are disposed on the first main surface, and respectively have element connection sections with convex shapes. The light emitting element has a pair of electrodes which connect to the element connection sections of the pair of connection terminals. The light transmissive member is disposed on an upper surface of the light emitting element. The sealing member is in contact with at least a part of a side surface of the light emitting element, covers a side surface of the light transmissive member, and is formed substantially in the same plane as the substrate on the mounting surface.

Claims (27)

1. A light emitting device comprising:

a substrate having a first main surface, a second main surface that is opposite from the first main surface, and a mounting surface that is adjacent to at least the second main surface, the substrate including

an insulating base material defining a concave component opening on the second main surface and the mounting surface, and

a pair of connection terminals disposed on the first main surface, and respectively having element connection sections with convex shapes;

a light emitting element having a pair of electrodes which connect to the element connection sections of the pair of connection terminals;

a light transmissive member disposed on an upper surface of the light emitting element; and

a sealing member that is in contact with at least a part of a side surface of the light emitting element, covers a side surface of the light transmissive member, and is formed substantially in the same plane as the substrate on the mounting surface.

2. The light emitting device according to claim 1 , wherein

a plane shape of each of the element connection sections is a quadrangle shape or an approximately quadrangle shape in plan view.

3. The light emitting device according to claim 1 , wherein

plane shapes of each of the element connection sections and each of the electrodes are substantially the same.

4. The light emitting device according to claim 1 , wherein

the substrate has a shape with a lengthwise direction and a widthwise direction.

5. The light emitting device according to claim 1 , wherein

the substrate has a shape with a lengthwise direction and a widthwise direction, and each of the element connection section is spaced apart from an end surface of the substrate extending along the lengthwise direction.

6. The light emitting device according to claim 1 , wherein

the substrate further has external connection sections disposed on the second surface, and configured to be connected to an external component of the light emitting device.

7. The light emitting device according to claim 1 , wherein

the substrate further has external connection sections disposed on the second surface, and configured to be connected to an external component of the light emitting device, and

the external connection sections are connected through vias to the element connection sections.

8. The light emitting device according to claim 1 , wherein

the substrate further has external connection sections disposed on the second surface, and configured to be connected to an external component of the light emitting device, and

the external connection sections each has shapes that are symmetrical in a lengthwise direction of the substrate.

9. The light emitting device according to claim 1 , wherein

the light transmissive member contains a phosphor.

10. The light emitting device according to claim 9 , wherein

the phosphor is a KSF-based phosphor.
