Highly stable Ni-M F6-NH
Provided herein are metal organic frameworks comprising metal nodes and N-donor organic ligands. Methods for capturing chemical species from fluid compositions comprise contacting a metal organic framework characterized by the formula [M a M b F 6-n (O/H 2 O) w (Ligand) x (solvent) y ] z with a fluid composition and capturing one or more chemical species from the fluid composition.
1. A method of capturing chemical species from a fluid composition, the method comprising
contacting a metal organic framework characterized by the formula [M a M b F 5 (O/H 2 O) w (Ligand) x ] z with a fluid composition, where M a is Ni 2+ ; M b is Al 3+ , Fe 3+ , V 3+ , V 5+ , or Nb 5+ ; w is 1; Ligand is pyrazine; x is 2; and z is at least equal to 1; and
capturing one or more captured chemical species from the fluid composition.
2. The method of claim 1 , wherein the metal-organic framework is characterized by the formula NiAlF 5 (H 2 O)(pyr) 2 .
3. The method of claim 1 , wherein the metal-organic framework is characterized by the formula NiFeF 5 (H 2 O)(pyr) 2 .
4. The method of claim 1 , wherein the metal-organic framework is characterized by the formula NiNbF 5 O(pyr) 2 .
5. The method of claim 1 , wherein the metal-organic framework is stable in the presence of hydrogen sulfide.
6. The method of claim 1 , wherein the fluid composition comprises one or more of flue gas, syngas, biogas and landfill gas, and the captured chemical species consists of carbon dioxide.
7. The method of claim 1 , wherein the fluid composition comprises H 2 S, and one or more of benzene, toluene, xylene, ethylbenzene, naphthalene and styrene, and the one or more captured chemical species includes H 2 S.
8. The method of claim 1 , wherein capturing comprises physical adsorption of the one or more captured chemical species by the metal organic framework.
9. The method of claim 1 , wherein capturing comprises chemisorption of the one or more captured chemical species by the metal organic framework.
10. The method of claim 9 , wherein chemisorption occurs by one or more captured chemical species chemically interacting with one or more open metal sites of the metal organic framework.
11. The method of claim 1 , wherein the fluid composition comprises breathable air and the one or more captured chemical species includes carbon dioxide.
12. The method of claim 11 , wherein capturing occurs in a confined space.
13. The method of claim 1 , wherein the fluid composition comprises one or more olefin species and one or more paraffin species, and the one or more captured chemical species consist of one or more olefins.
14. The method of claim 13 , wherein the one or more olefin species comprise ethylene and the one or more paraffin species comprise ethane.
15. The method of claim 13 , wherein the one or more olefin species comprise propylene and the one or more paraffin species comprise propane.
16. The method of claim 1 , where the fluid composition comprises H 2 S and one or more hydrocarbon species, and the captured chemical species consists of H 2 S.
17. The method of claim 16 , wherein the one or more hydrocarbon species comprise one or more open-chain hydrocarbons.
18. The method of claim 17 , wherein the one or more open-chain hydrocarbons comprise propane, propene, ethane, ethene, and combinations thereof.
