Substituted phosphines as components of organic light-emitting devices
A heterocyclic compound and an organic light emitting device, the compound being represented by Formula 1:
1. A compound represented by Formula 1:
wherein:
Ar 1 , Ar 2 and Ar 3 are each independently selected from optionally substituted C 5 -C 60 carbocyclyl and optionally substituted C 2 -C 60 heterocyclyl;
R 1 , R 2 and R 3 are each independently represented by the following Formula 2;
b1, b2 and b3 are each independently 0, 1, 2 or 3;
with the proviso that (i) the sum of b1, b2 and b3 is greater than or equal to 1; or (ii) when Ar 1 , Ar 2 and Ar 3 are each optionally substituted phenyl, the sum of b1, b2 and b3 is greater than or equal to 2;
Formula 2 is represented by:

A 1 and A 2 are each independently selected from phenyl, naphthalenyl, phenanthrenyl, fluoranthenyl, triphenylenyl, pyrenyl, chrysenyl, pyridinyl and pyrimidinyl;
L 11 is selected from optionally substituted C 3 -C 10 cycloalkylenyl, optionally substituted C 1 -C 10 heterocycloalkylenyl, optionally substituted C 3 -C 10 cycloalkenylenyl, optionally substituted C 1 -C 10 heterocycloalkenylenyl, optionally substituted C 6 -C 60 arylenyl, optionally substituted C 1 -C 60 heteroarylenyl, optionally substituted divalent non-aromatic condensed polycyclyl and optionally substituted divalent non-aromatic condensed heteropolycyclyl;
Q 1 , Q 2 , Q 11 , Q 12 , Q 13 , Q 21 , Q 22 , Q 23 , Q 31 , Q 32 and Q 33 are each independently selected from hydrogen, deuterium, fluoro, chloro, bromo, iodo, hydroxy, cyano, nitro, amidino, hydrazino, hydrazono, C 1 -C 60 alkyl, C 2 -C 60 alkenyl, C 2 -C 60 alkynyl, C 1 -C 60 alkoxy, C 3 -C 10 cycloalkyl, C 1 -C 10 heterocycloalkyl, C 3 -C 10 cycloalkenyl, C 1 -C 10 heterocycloalkenyl, C 6 -C 60 aryl, C 1 -C 60 heteroaryl, monovalent non-aromatic condensed polycyclyl, monovalent non-aromatic condensed heteropolycyclyl, biphenyl and terphenyl;
R 17 , R 18 , R 19 and R 20 are each independently selected from hydrogen, deuterium, fluoro, chloro, bromo, iodo, hydroxy, cyano, nitro, amidino, hydrazino, hydrazono, optionally substituted C 1 -C 60 alkyl, optionally substituted C 2 -C 60 alkenyl, optionally substituted C 2 -C 60 alkynyl, optionally substituted C 1 -C 60 alkoxy, optionally substituted C 3 -C 10 cycloalkyl, optionally substituted C 1 -C 10 heterocycloalkyl, optionally substituted C 3 -C 10 cycloalkenyl, optionally substituted C 1 -C 10 heterocycloalkenyl, optionally substituted C 6 -C 60 aryl, optionally substituted C 6 -C 60 aryloxy, optionally substituted C 6 -C 60 arylthio, optionally substituted C 1 -C 60 heteroaryl, optionally substituted monovalent non-aromatic condensed polycyclyl, optionally substituted monovalent non-aromatic condensed heteropolycyclyl, —S(═O)(Q 1 ) and —P(═O)(Q 1 )(Q 2 );
Y is selected from C(R 17 )(R 18 ), (S), Si(R 17 )(R 18 ), S(═O), S(═O) 2 and P(═O)(R 17 );

b19 and b20 are each independently 0, 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7 or 8; and
* is a binding site to an adjacent atom;
wherein the optional substituents in Formula 1 and Formula 2 are selected from:
(i) deuterium, fluoro, chloro, bromo, iodo, hydroxy, cyano, nitro, amidino, hydrazino, hydrazono, C 1 -C 60 alkyl, C 2 -C 60 alkenyl, C 2 -C 60 alkynyl, C 1 -C 60 alkoxy, C 3 -C 10 cycloalkyl, C 1 -C 10 heterocycloalkyl, C 3 -C 10 cycloalkenyl, C 1 -C 10 heterocycloalkenyl, C 6 -C 60 aryl, C 6 -C 60 aryloxy, C 6 -C 60 arylthio, C 1 -C 60 heteroaryl, monovalent non-aromatic condensed polycyclyl, monovalent non-aromatic condensed heteropolycyclyl, —Si(Q 31 )(Q 32 )(Q 33 ), —N(Q 31 )(Q 32 ), —B(Q 31 )(Q 32 ), —C(═O)(Q 31 ), —S(═O) 2 (Q 31 ) and —P(═O)(Q 31 )(Q 32 );
(ii) C 1 -C 60 alkyl, C 2 -C 60 alkenyl, C 2 -C 60 alkynyl and C 1 -C 60 alkoxy, each optionally substituted with at least one substituent selected from deuterium, fluoro, chloro, bromo, iodo, hydroxy, cyano, nitro, amidino, hydrazino, hydrazono, C 3 -C 10 cycloalkyl, C 1 -C 10 heterocycloalkyl, C 3 -C 10 cycloalkenyl, C 1 -C 10 heterocycloalkenyl, C 6 -C 60 aryl, C 6 -C 60 aryloxy, C 6 -C 60 arylthio, C 1 -C 60 heteroaryl, monovalent non-aromatic condensed polycyclyl, monovalent non-aromatic condensed heteropolycyclyl, —Si(Q 11 )(Q 12 )(Q 13 ), —N(Q 11 )(Q 12 ), —B(Q 11 )(Q 12 ), —C(═O)(Q 11 ), —S(═O) 2 (Q 11 ) and —P(═O)(Q 11 )(Q 12 ); and
(iii) C 3 -C 10 cycloalkyl, C 1 -C 10 heterocycloalkyl, C 3 -C 10 cycloalkenyl, C 1 -C 10 heterocycloalkenyl, C 6 -C 60 aryl, C 6 -C 60 aryloxy, C 6 -C 60 arylthio, C 1 -C 60 heteroaryl, monovalent non-aromatic condensed polycyclyl and monovalent non-aromatic condensed heteropolycyclyl, each optionally substituted with at least one substituent selected from deuterium, fluoro, chloro, bromo, iodo, hydroxy, cyano, nitro, amidino, hydrazino, hydrazono, C 1 -C 60 alkyl, C 2 -C 60 alkenyl, C 2 -C 60 alkynyl, C 1 -C 60 alkoxy, C 3 -C 10 cycloalkyl, C 1 -C 10 heterocycloalkyl, C 3 -C 10 cycloalkenyl, C 1 -C 10 heterocycloalkenyl, C 6 -C 60 aryl, C 6 -C 60 aryloxy, C 6 -C 60 arylthio, C 1 -C 60 heteroaryl, monovalent non-aromatic condensed polycyclyl, monovalent non-aromatic condensed heteropolycyclyl, —Si(Q 21 )(Q 22 )(Q 23 ), —N(Q 21 )(Q 22 ), —B(Q 21 )(Q 22 ), —C(═O)(Q 21 ), —S(═O) 2 (Q 21 ) and —P(═O)(Q 21 )(Q 22 ).
2. The compound of claim 1 , wherein at least one of Ar 1 , Ar 2 and Ar 3 is an optionally substituted π-electron-depleted nitrogen-containing C 2 -C 60 heterocyclyl.
3. The compound of claim 1 , wherein:
Ar 1 , Ar 2 and Ar 3 are each independently selected from phenyl, naphthalenyl, pyridinyl, pyrazinyl, pyrimidinyl, pyridazinyl, triazinyl, quinolinyl, isoquinolinyl, acridinyl, phenanthridinyl, phthalazinyl, naphthyridinyl, quinoxalinyl or quinazolinyl, each optionally substituted with at least one substituent selected from deuterium, fluoro, chloro, bromo, iodo, hydroxy, cyano, nitro, amidino, hydrazino, hydrazono, C 1 -C 20 alkyl, C 1 -C 20 alkoxy, cyclopentyl, cyclohexyl, cycloheptyl, cyclopentenyl, cyclohexenyl, phenyl, phenyl substituted with C 1 -C 10 alkyl, phenyl substituted with fluoro, biphenyl, terphenyl, pentalenyl, indenyl, naphthyl, azulenyl, heptalenyl, indacenyl, acenaphthyl, fluorenyl, spiro-bifluorenyl, benzofluorenyl, dibenzofluorenyl, phenalenyl, phenanthrenyl, anthracenyl, fluoranthenyl, triphenylenyl, pyrenyl, chrysenyl, naphthacenyl, picenyl, perylenyl, pentaphenyl, hexacenyl, pentacenyl, rubicenyl, coronenyl, ovalenyl, thiophenyl, furanyl, carbazolyl, indolyl, isoindolyl, benzofuranyl, benzothiophenyl, dibenzofuranyl, dibenzothiophenyl, benzocarbazolyl, dibenzocarbazolyl, dibenzosilolyl, pyridinyl, —Si(Q 31 )(Q 32 )(Q 33 ) and —N(Q 31 )(Q 32 ); and

4. The compound of claim 1 , wherein A 1 and A 2 are each independently phenyl.

8. The compound of claim 1 , wherein:
Y is selected from C(R 17 )(R 18 ) and Si(R 17 )(R 18 ); and
R 17 and R 18 are each independently selected from hydrogen, deuterium, methyl, ethyl, n-propyl, isopropyl, n-butyl, isobutyl, sec-butyl and tert-butyl.
9. The compound of claim 1 , wherein R 19 and R 20 are each independently selected from:
(i) hydrogen, deuterium, fluoro, chloro, bromo, iodo, hydroxy, cyano, nitro, amidino, hydrazino, hydrazono, C 1 -C 20 alkyl and C 1 -C 20 alkoxy; and

12. The compound of claim 11 , wherein:
at least one of X 11 , X 12 , X 13 , X 14 , X 15 and X 16 is N;
X 21 is C(R 21 );
X 22 is C(R 22 );
X 23 is C(R 23 );
X 24 is C(R 24 );
X 25 is C(R 25 ); and
X 26 is C(R 26 );
with the proviso that at least one of R 21 , R 22 , R 23 , R 24 , R 25 and R 26 is Formula 2-1.
13. The compound of claim 12 , wherein:
at least one of X 11 , X 12 , X 13 , X 14 , X 15 and X 16 is N;
X 31 is C(R 31 );
X 32 is C(R 32 ); and
X 33 is C(R 33 );
with the proviso that at least one of R 31 , R 32 and R 33 is Formula 2-1.
14. The compound of claim 12 , wherein:
at least one of X 21 , X 22 , X 23 , X 24 , X 25 and X 26 is N;
X 31 is C(R 31 );
X 32 is C(R 32 ); and
X 33 is C(R 33 );
with the proviso that at least one of R 31 , R 32 and R 33 is Formula 2-1.
15. The compound of claim 12 , wherein:
X 22 is N;
X 21 is C(R 21 );
X 25 is C(R 25 ); and
X 26 is C(R 26 );
with the proviso that at least one of R 21 , R 25 and R 26 is Formula 2-1.
16. The compound of claim 11 , wherein:
at least one of X 31 , X 32 and X 33 is N;
X 21 is C(R 21 );
X 22 is C(R 22 );
X 23 is C(R 23 );
X 24 is C(R 24 );
X 25 is C(R 25 ); and
X 26 is C(R 26 );
with the proviso that at least one of R 21 , R 22 , R 23 , R 24 , R 25 and R 26 is Formula 2-1.
17. The compound of claim 1 , wherein the compound is selected from the group consisting of:

(i) a first electrode;
(ii) a second electrode facing the first electrode; and
(iii) an organic layer between the first electrode and the second electrode,
wherein the organic layer comprises an emission layer and the compound of claim 1 .
19. The organic light emitting device of claim 18 , wherein:
(i) the emission layer comprises a host and a dopant; and
(ii) at least one selected from the host and the dopant comprises the compound of claim 1 .
