Abstract

A method for collaborative analysis pre-processing of electronic models of engineering objects includes assigning a first user to de-feature a model of an engineering object during a first session to provide a de-featured model of an engineering object, assigning a second user to conduct other FEA pre-processing operations on the model of the engineering object during a second session, and applying the other FEA pre-processing operations for the model of the engineering object to the de-featured model of the engineering object. Example of other FEA pre-processing operations include applying a material definition to a geometry, pre-meshing a geometry, initiating automated meshing of a geometry, validating automated meshing of a geometry, editing a mesh for a geometry, manually meshing a geometry, and defining one or more boundary conditions for a geometry. The second session and the first session may be conducted concurrently. A corresponding system and apparatus are also disclosed herein.

Claims (28)

1. A computer-executed method for collaborative analysis pre-processing of electronic models of engineering objects, the method comprising:

assigning and enabling, via a processor executing software, a first user to de-feature a model of an engineering object during a first session, on a first client connected to a server, to provide a de-featured model of an engineering object;

assigning and enabling, via a processor executing software, a second user to conduct other FEA pre-processing operations on the model of the engineering object during a second session, on a second client connected to the server, wherein the second session overlaps in time with the first session;

applying automatically, via a processor executing software, the other FEA pre-processing operations of the pre-processed model of the second session to the de-featured model of the engineering object; and

providing an updated de-featured model, at the server, of the engineering object based on the pre-processed model of the second session.

2. The computer-executed method of claim 1 , further comprising replacing, via a processor executing software, portions of the model of the engineering object with corresponding portions of the de-featured model of the engineering object within a collaborative definition of the engineering object.

3. The computer-executed method of claim 2 , wherein the portions of the model of the engineering object comprise one or more features or one or more parts.

4. The computer-executed method of claim 1 , wherein the other FEA pre-processing operations comprise defining a boundary condition.

5. The computer-executed method of claim 4 , conducting, via a processor executing software, an analysis simulation for the de-featured model of the engineering object using the boundary condition defined by the second user.

6. The computer-executed method of claim 1 , wherein the FEA pre-processing operations comprise defining a mesh.

7. The computer-executed method of claim 6 , conducting, via a processor executing software, an analysis simulation for the de-featured model of the engineering object using the mesh defined by the second user.

8. The computer-executed method of claim 1 , wherein the other FEA pre-processing operations comprise an operation selected from the group consisting of applying a material definition to a geometry, pre-meshing a geometry, initiating automated meshing of a geometry, validating automated meshing of a geometry, editing a mesh for a geometry, manually meshing a geometry, and defining one or more boundary conditions for a geometry.

9. The computer-executed method of claim 1 , further comprising presenting, via a processor executing software, a task management interface for assigning the first and second users.

10. The computer-executed method of claim 1 , further comprising launching, via a processor executing software, one or more software tools that enable the second user to conduct the other FEA pre-processing operations on the model of the engineering object.

11. A computer-executed method for collaborative analysis pre-processing of electronic models of engineering objects, the method comprising:

assigning and enabling, via a processor executing software, a first user to de-feature a model of an engineering object during a first session, on a first client connected to a server, to provide a de-featured model of an engineering object;

assigning and enabling, via a processor executing software, a second user to define a boundary condition or a mesh for the model of the engineering object during a second session, on a second client connected to the server, wherein the second session overlaps in time with the first session;

applying automatically, via a processor executing software, the other FEA pre-processing operations of the pre-processed model of the second session to the de-featured model of the engineering object; and

providing an updated de-featured model, at the server, of the engineering object based on the pre-processed model of the second session.

12. The computer-executed method of claim 11 , further comprising replacing, via a processor executing software, portions of the model of the engineering object with corresponding portions of the de-featured model of the engineering object within a collaborative definition of the engineering object.

13. The computer-executed method of claim 11 , wherein the portions of the model of the engineering object comprise one or more features or one or more parts.

14. The computer-executed method of claim 11 , wherein the second user is enabled, via a processor executing software, to conduct a pre-processing operation selected from the group consisting of applying a material definition to a geometry, pre-meshing a geometry, initiating automated meshing of a geometry, validating automated meshing of a geometry, editing a mesh for a geometry, manually meshing a geometry, and defining one or more boundary conditions for a geometry.

15. The computer-executed method of claim 11 , wherein the boundary condition comprises a load or a constraint.

16. The computer-executed method of claim 11 , further comprising conducting, via a processor executing software, an analysis simulation for the de-featured model of the engineering object using the boundary condition defined by the second user.

17. The computer-executed method of claim 16 , further comprising conducting, via a processor executing software, an analysis simulation for the de-featured model of the engineering object using the mesh defined by the second user.

18. The computer-executed method of claim 11 , further comprising presenting, via a processor executing software, a task management interface for assigning the first and second users.

19. The computer-executed method of claim 11 , further comprising launching, via a processor executing software, one or more software tools that enable the second user to conduct the other FEA pre-processing operations on the model of the engineering object.

20. The computer-execute method of claim 11 , further comprising manufacturing at least a portion of the engineering object based on the updated de-featured model.
