Abstract

A fire apparatus includes a chassis, a body assembly coupled to the chassis and having a first storage area configured to receive a ground ladder and a second storage area configured to receive a fire hose, a front cabin coupled to a front end of the chassis forward of the body assembly, a front axle coupled to the front end of the chassis, a tandem rear axle coupled to a rear end of the chassis, a water tank coupled to the chassis, a pump coupled to the chassis, and a ladder assembly including a plurality of extensible ladder sections. The ladder assembly has a proximal end that is coupled to the chassis rearward of the front cabin and between the front axle and the tandem rear axle. The ladder assembly is extensible to provide a horizontal reach of at least 88 feet and a vertical reach of at least 95 feet.

Claims (53)

1. A mid-mount, quint configuration fire apparatus comprising:

a chassis;

a body assembly coupled to the chassis and having a first storage area configured to receive a ground ladder and a second storage area configured to receive a fire hose;

a front cabin coupled to a front end of the chassis forward of the body assembly;

a front axle coupled to the front end of the chassis;

a tandem rear axle coupled to a rear end of the chassis;

a water tank coupled to the chassis;

a pump coupled to the chassis;

a ladder assembly including a plurality of extensible ladder sections, the ladder assembly having a proximal end that is coupled to the chassis rearward of the front cabin and between the front axle and the tandem rear axle; and

a torque box coupled to the chassis, the torque box having a pedestal, wherein the proximal end of the ladder assembly is coupled to the pedestal, the pedestal defining an axis about which the ladder assembly rotates;

wherein the pump is positioned forward of the axis of the pedestal and rearward of the front cabin; and

wherein the ladder assembly is extensible to provide a horizontal reach of at least 88 feet and a vertical reach of at least 95 feet.

2. The mid-mount, quint configuration fire apparatus of claim 1 , wherein the ladder assembly includes a work platform coupled to the proximal end, and wherein the work platform overhangs the pump when the ladder assembly is in a stowed position.

3. The mid-mount, quint configuration fire apparatus of claim 1 , wherein the body assembly has chamfered corners at the rear end thereof.

4. A mid-mount, quint configuration fire apparatus comprising:

a chassis;

a body assembly coupled to the chassis and having a first storage area configured to receive a ground ladder and a second storage area configured to receive a fire hose, wherein the body assembly has chamfered corners at a rear end thereof;

a front cabin coupled to a front end of the chassis forward of the body assembly;

a front axle coupled to the front end of the chassis;

a tandem rear axle coupled to a rear end of the chassis;

a water tank coupled to the chassis;

a pump coupled to the chassis; and

a ladder assembly including a plurality of extensible ladder sections, the ladder assembly having a proximal end that is coupled to the chassis rearward of the front cabin and between the front axle and the tandem rear axle;

wherein the ladder assembly is extensible to provide a horizontal reach of at least 88 feet and a vertical reach of at least 95 feet; and

wherein the ladder assembly includes a work basket coupled to a distal end thereof, and wherein the work basket has chamfered corners to correspond with the chamfered corners of the body assembly.

5. A mid-mount, quint configuration fire apparatus comprising:

a chassis;

a body assembly coupled to the chassis and having a first storage area configured to receive a ground ladder and a second storage area configured to receive a fire hose, wherein the body assembly has chamfered corners at a rear end thereof, and wherein the body assembly includes selectively deployable ladders hingedly coupled to the chamfered corners a front cabin coupled to a front end of the chassis forward of the body assembly;

a front axle coupled to the front end of the chassis;

a tandem rear axle coupled to a rear end of the chassis;

a water tank coupled to the chassis;

a pump coupled to the chassis; and

a ladder assembly including a plurality of extensible ladder sections, the ladder assembly having a proximal end that is coupled to the chassis rearward of the front cabin and between the front axle and the tandem rear axle;

wherein the ladder assembly is extensible to provide a horizontal reach of at least 88 feet and a vertical reach of at least 95 feet.

6. The mid-mount, quint configuration fire apparatus of claim 1 , wherein the mid-mount, quint configuration fire apparatus has an overall length with (i) a first portion extending from the rear end of the body assembly to a middle of the tandem rear axle and (ii) a second portion extending from the middle of the tandem rear axle to the front end of the front cabin, wherein the second portion is approximately twice the length of the first portion.

7. The mid-mount, quint configuration fire apparatus of claim 6 , wherein the first portion is at most 160 inches and the second portion is at least 320 inches.

8. The mid-mount, quint configuration fire apparatus of claim 1 , wherein the ladder assembly has at least a 1,000 pound tip load rating when the ladder assembly is fully extended without a work basket coupled to a distal end thereof.

9. The mid-mount, quint configuration fire apparatus of claim 1 , wherein the tandem rear axle has a gross axle weight rating of no more than 48,000 pounds.

10. The mid-mount, quint configuration fire apparatus of claim 1 , wherein the water tank has up to a 300 gallon capacity.

11. A mid-mount fire apparatus comprising:

a chassis;

a body assembly coupled to the chassis;

a front cabin coupled to a front end of the chassis forward of the body assembly;

a front axle coupled to the front end of the chassis;

a rear axle coupled to a rear end of the chassis;

a ladder assembly including a plurality of extensible ladder sections, the ladder assembly having a proximal end that is coupled to the chassis between the front axle and the rear axle; and
