Auger grouted displacement pile
View Patent ↗Disclosed in this specification is a method and apparatus for placing an auger grouted displacement pile or helical pile in soil. The pile has an elongated shaft with at least one lateral compaction protrusion which establishes a regular circumference in the supporting medium. The pile also has a helical blade configured to move the pile into the supporting medium. The bottom of the shaft includes means for forming irregularities in the circumference after compaction by the lateral compaction protrusion. The bore is filled with grout while leaving the pile in the soil.
1. An auger grouted displacement pile for being placed in a supporting medium comprising:
an elongated pile shaft;
extending from the pile shaft, at least one lateral compaction protrusion which establishes a bore with a regular circumference in the supporting medium, the established bore having a diameter that is larger than the diameter of the elongated pile shaft;
a helical blade having a first handedness configured to move the pile into the supporting medium;
means for forming irregularities in the regular circumference, the irregularities extending over a length of the bore; and
a helical auger configured to move material, wherein the means for forming irregularities laterally extends from the at least one lateral compaction protrusion, the means for forming irregularities being elongated and wrapping about the shaft by at least forty-five degrees.
2. The pile as recited in claim 1 , wherein the elongated pile shaft is hollow and terminates in a hole in a bottom section of the elongated pile shaft configured to permit a drill to be passed through the elongated pile shaft and through the hole to drill into bedrock.
3. The pile as recited according to claim 1 , wherein the at least one helical auger has a handedness which is the same as the first handedness of the helical blade.
4. A displacement pile for being placed in a supporting medium, the pile comprising:
an elongated pile shaft;
extending from the elongated pile shaft, at least one lateral compaction protrusion which, upon rotating the elongated pile shaft, establishes a bore with a regular circumference in the supporting medium, the established bore having a diameter which is greater than the diameter of the elongated pile shaft;
a helical blade that moves the pile into the supporting medium; and
means for forming irregularities in the bore of regular circumference, the irregularities extending over a length of the bore, wherein the means for forming irregularities laterally extends from the at least one lateral compaction protrusion, the means for forming irregularities being elongated and wrapping about the shaft by at least forty-five degrees.
5. The displacement pile as recited in claim 4 , further comprising a helical auger for moving a solidifying substance relative to the bore.
6. The displacement pile as recited in claim 5 , in which the solidifying substance is grout.
7. The displacement pile as recited in claim 5 , in which the helical blade has a first handedness and the helical auger has an opposite second handedness.
8. The displacement pile as recited in claim 5 , wherein the helical auger and helical blade have the same first handedness.
9. The displacement pile as recited in claim 4 , wherein the means for forming irregularities creates a helical pattern in the bore of regular circumference.
