Abstract

The present disclosure is directed to a paper towel product that will capably separate from the paper towel roll as a full sheet, a half sheet or a quarter sheet. A method of making a paper towel with machine direction perforations is also disclosed.

Claims (51)

1. A partitionable rolled paper towel product comprising:

a continuous roll of at least one paper web having a basis weight of at least 30 g/sq. meter,

wherein the continuous roll of at least one paper web has a series of repeating perforations, wherein the series of perforations includes a full sheet perforation and a half sheet perforation, both in the cross-machine direction, and a quarter sheet perforation in the machine direction,

wherein the full sheet perforation and the half sheet perforation have substantially the same perforation strength and the quarter sheet perforation has a perforation strength greater than the perforation strength of the full and half sheet perforations, and

wherein the ratio between the machine direction perforation tensile strength of the perforation line and the tensile strength of the cross-machine direction is at least about 32%.

2. The rolled paper product of claim 1 , wherein the ratio of the perforation tensile of the quarter sheet perforation to the half sheet perforation tensile is at least about 1.15.

3. The rolled towel product of claim 1 , wherein the perforation strength of the full and half sheets is between about 450 grams/3 inches and about 950 grams/3 inches.

4. The rolled towel product of claim 1 , wherein the rolled paper towel is a two-ply product.

5. The rolled towel product of claim 1 , wherein the rolled paper towel is a three-ply product.

6. The rolled towel product of claim 1 , wherein the product is embossed.

7. A rolled paper product comprising:

a series of sheets of a single-use absorbent paper, wherein the first sheet is defined by a first set of perforations that extend in the cross-machine direction and a second set of perforations that extend in the cross-machine direction; and

wherein the first sheet includes at least one set of perforations in the machine direction allowing the first sheet to be partitioned into smaller sheets;

wherein the perforation bond length of the at least one set of perforations in the machine direction is longer than the bond length of the first and second sets of perforations that extend in the cross-machine direction;

wherein the perforation strength of the machine direction perforations is at least about 770 grams/3 inches;

wherein the perforation strength of the cross-machine direction perforations is at least 450 grams/3 inches;

wherein the rolled paper product has a basis weight of at least about 30 g/sq. meter; and

wherein the rolled paper product has a SAT absorbent capacity of at least about 300 grams/sq. meter.

8. The rolled paper product of claim 7 , wherein the ratio of the machine-direction perforation tensile strength/cross-machine direction perforation tensile strength is at least about 1.15.

9. The rolled paper product of claim 7 , wherein the bond area of the perforations in the cross-machine direction are at least about 15%.

10. The rolled paper product of claim 9 , wherein the bond area of the perforations in the machine direction are at least about 16%.

11. The rolled paper product of claim 7 , wherein the bond length of the perforations extending in the machine direction are at least 1.2 times the length of the bonds of either the first or second set of perforations in the cross-machine direction.

12. The rolled paper product of claim 7 , wherein the smaller sheets are at least about 5 inches long in the cross-machine direction.

13. A rolled paper towel product comprising:

at least one paper web;

at least one perforation line in the cross-machine direction of the paper web;

at least one perforation line in the machine direction of the paper web;

wherein the ratio of the machine direction perforation tensile strength to the cross-machine direction perforation tensile strength is at least about 1.15; and

wherein the ratio between the machine direction perforation tensile strength of the perforation line and the tensile strength of the cross-machine direction is at least about 32%.

14. The rolled paper product of claim 13 , wherein the ratio of the machine direction perforation tensile strength to the cross-machine direction perforation tensile strength is at least about 1.5.

15. The rolled paper product of claim 13 , wherein the perforation line in cross-machine direction has a perforation tensile of between about 450 g/3 inches and about 950 g/3 inches.

16. The rolled paper product of claim 13 , wherein the perforation lines in the machine direction have a perforation tensile of between about 770 g/3 inches and 1700 g/3 inches.

17. A rolled paper towel product of at least one paper web produced by through drying, the rolled towel product comprising:

a basis weight of at least about 35 g/sq. meter;

at least one perforation line in the cross-machine direction having a bond length, a cut length and a perforation tensile strength:

at least one perforation line in the machine direction having a bond length, a cut length and a perforation tensile strength;

wherein the ratio of the machine-direction perforation tensile strength to the cross-machine direction perforation tensile strength is at least 1.0 or higher;

wherein the bond length in the machine-direction perforation line is longer than the bond length in the cross-machine direction perforation line; and

wherein the ratio between the machine direction perforation tensile strength of the perforation line and the tensile strength of the cross-machine direction is at least about 32%.

18. The paper product of claim 17 , wherein the perforation line in the cross-machine direction comprises a series of uniform perforations.

19. The paper product of claim 17 , wherein the machine-direction perforation line comprises a series of uniform perforations.

20. The paper product of claim 17 , wherein the machine-direction perforation line comprises non-uniform bond lengths.

21. The paper product of claim 17 , wherein the bond lengths of the machine-direction perforation located proximate the perforation line in the cross-machine direction are longer than the bond lengths in the cross-machine direction perforation line.

22. A rolled paper towel product of at least one paper web produced by through drying, the rolled towel product comprising:

a basis weight of at least about 40 g/sq. meter;

at least one perforation line in the cross-machine direction having a bond length, a cut length, and a percent bond area:

at least one perforation line in the machine direction having a bond length, a cut length, and a bond area;

wherein the ratio of the percent bond area in the machine direction perforation to the % bond area in the cross-machine direction perforation is greater than about 1.0;

wherein the bond length in the machine direction perforation line is longer than the bond length in the cross-machine direction perforation line;

wherein the perforation strength of the machine direction perforations is at least about 770 grams/3 inches; and

wherein the perforation strength of the cross-machine direction perforations is at least 450 grams/3 inches.
