Abstract

A technique relates to a superconducting chip. Resonant units have resonant frequencies, and the resonant units are configured as superconducting resonators. Josephson junctions are in the resonant units, and one or more of the Josephson junctions have a shorted tunnel barrier.

Claims (23)

1. A superconducting chip comprising:

resonant units configured as superconducting resonators; and

Josephson junctions in the resonant units, one or more of the Josephson junctions having a shorted tunnel barrier, one or more of the Josephson junctions having no shorted tunnel barrier;

wherein:

the resonant units having the no shorted tunnel barrier in the Josephson junctions comprise resonant frequencies in a frequency band, and the resonant units having the shorted tunnel barrier in the Josephson junctions comprise other resonant frequencies outside of the frequency band; and

the resonant units having the shorted tunnel barrier comprise an element coupled to the shorted tunnel barrier, the element being selected from the group consisting of a capacitor and an inductor.

2. The superconducting chip of claim 1 , wherein the shorted tunnel barrier causes an increase in the resonant frequencies for the resonant units having the shorted tunnel barrier.

3. The superconducting chip of claim 1 , wherein the resonant frequencies for the resonant units having the shorted tunnel barrier are designed to fall outside of the frequency band.

4. The superconducting chip of claim 1 , wherein the one or more of the Josephson junctions having the shorted tunnel barrier are determined in order to define a chip identification.

5. The superconducting chip of claim 1 , wherein:

the Josephson junctions are structured to have a first configuration or a second configuration;

the first configuration is a non-shorted Josephson junction, the non-shorted Josephson junction having a tunnel barrier defined as not being shorted; and

the second configuration is a shorted Josephson junction, the shorted Josephson junction being defined as having the shorted tunnel barrier.

6. The superconducting chip of claim 5 , wherein a combination of the first configuration and the second configuration defines a binary representation.

7. The superconducting chip of claim 5 , wherein a combination of the resonant frequencies, associated with the first configuration and the second configuration, defines a binary representation.

8. The superconducting chip of claim 1 , wherein:

the resonant units having the Josephson junctions having the no shorted tunnel barrier are configured to be read out as a first binary number; and

the resonant units having the one or more of the Josephson junctions having the shorted tunnel barrier are configured to be read out as a second binary number.

9. A superconducting chip comprising:

one or more non-shorted Josephson junctions in first resonant units, the first resonant units having first resonant frequencies in a frequency band; and

one or more shorted Josephson junctions in second resonant units, the second resonant units having second resonant frequencies outside the frequency band, wherein:

an identification of the superconducting chip includes representation of both a presence of the first resonant frequencies and an absence of the second resonant frequencies in the frequency band; and

the second resonant units having the one or more shorted Josephson junctions comprise an element coupled to the one or more shorted Josephson junctions, the element being selected from the group consisting of a capacitor and an inductor.
