Abstract

Exemplary medical devices may include a snare device. The snare device may include a first leg having a proximalmost end and a second leg having a proximalmost end. The first leg and the second leg may form a distal loop. The proximalmost end of first leg may be independently moveable relative to the proximalmost end of the second leg.

Claims (23)

1. A medical device, comprising:

a first leg having a proximal end, wherein the first leg has a proximalmost end coupled to a first sliding portion having at least one finger hole, wherein the first sliding portion is configured to actuate the proximal end of the first leg, and wherein the first sliding portion is coupled to a first cable that wraps around a first spool; and

a second leg having a proximal end, wherein the second leg has a proximalmost end coupled to a second sliding portion having at least one finger hole, wherein the second sliding portion is configured to actuate the proximal end of the second leg, and wherein the second sliding portion is coupled to a second cable that wraps around a second spool;

wherein the first leg and the second leg form a distal loop, wherein, in a first configuration, the first sliding portion is independently moveable-relative to the second sliding portion, and wherein each of the first and second spools is biased into a configuration in which the first and second cables are wrapped around the first and second spools, respectively, as the first sliding portion independently moves relative to the second sliding portion.

2. The medical device of claim 1 , wherein at least a portion of a surface of at least one of the first leg and the second leg includes a plurality of teeth, the surface facing an interior of the distal loop.

3. The medical device of claim 1 , wherein the first leg and the second leg include a plurality of segments, wherein a flexibility of at least one of the plurality of segments is different than a flexibility of an adjacent segment.

4. The medical device of claim 3 , wherein the plurality of segments consist of only one wire.

5. The medical device of claim 1 , wherein each of the first spool and the second spool is spring-biased.

6. The medical device of claim 5 , in which each of the first spool and the second spool is spring-biased so as to urge rotation of each of the first spool and the second spool about axes of the first spool and the second spool, respectively.

7. The medical device of claim 1 wherein, in a second configuration, the first sliding portion is locked with respect to the second sliding portion so that the first sliding portion is not independently movable relative to the second sliding portion.

8. The medical device of claim 7 , wherein the first sliding portion includes a female locking member, and wherein the second sliding portion includes a male locking member, and wherein the first sliding portion is transitioned from the first configuration to the second configuration by inserting the male locking member into the female locking member.

9. The medical device of claim 8 , wherein the first sliding portion includes a plurality of female locking members, and wherein the second sliding portion includes only one male locking member.

10. The medical device of claim 9 , wherein each of the plurality of female locking members includes an aperture, and wherein the male locking member includes a slidable pin.

11. The medical device of claim 1 , wherein moving the first sliding portion proximally or distally does not cause movement of the proximal end of the second leg.

12. The medical device of claim 1 , wherein each of the first and second spools is configured to rotate as the corresponding first and second sliding portions are slid distally.

13. A medical device, comprising:

a first leg having a proximal end, wherein the first leg is coupled to a first sliding portion having at least one finger hole, wherein the first sliding portion is configured to actuate the proximal end of the first leg, and wherein the first sliding portion includes a plurality of female locking members; and

a second leg having a proximal end, wherein the second leg is coupled to a second sliding portion having at least one finger hole, wherein the second sliding portion is configured to actuate the proximal end of the second leg, and wherein the second sliding portion includes only one male locking member;

wherein the first leg and the second leg form a distal loop, wherein, in a first configuration, the first sliding portion is independently moveable-relative to the second sliding portion, wherein, in a second configuration, the first sliding portion is locked with respect to the second sliding portion so that the first sliding portion is not independently movable relative to the second sliding portion, and wherein the first sliding portion is transitioned from the first configuration to the second configuration by inserting the male locking member into one of the plurality of female locking members.

14. The medical device of claim 13 , wherein each of the plurality of female locking members includes an aperture, and wherein the male locking member includes a pin that is slidable along a longitudinal axis of the pin.

15. The medical device of claim 14 , wherein the pin is configured to slide along an axis that is parallel with or coaxial with a central axis of the aperture of each of the plurality of female locking members.

16. The medical device of claim 14 , wherein an entire perimeter of the aperture of each of the female locking members is enclosed.

17. The medical device of claim 13 , wherein the first sliding portion is coupled to a first cable that wraps around a first spool, and wherein the second sliding portion is coupled to a second cable that wraps around a second spool.
