Abstract

A method for uplink (UL) wireless backhaul communication at a wireless backhaul remote unit in a radio access network comprising receiving a configuration for radio frames and a transmission schedule through a downlink (DL) physical layer broadcast channel, wherein the transmission schedule comprises a transmission allocation for the remote unit, generating a UL data frame, wherein generating the UL data frame comprises performing forward error correction (FEC) encoding on a data bit stream to generate a plurality of FEC codewords, wherein performing the FEC encoding comprises performing Reed Solomon (RS) encoding on the data bit stream to generate a plurality of RS codewords, performing byte interleaving on the RS codewords, and performing Turbo encoding on the byte interleaved RS codewords to generate one or more Turbo codewords, wherein each Turbo codeword is encoded from more than one RS codeword, and transmitting the UL data frame according to the transmission allocation.

Claims (41)

1. A method comprising:

receiving by a wireless backhaul remote unit, a first frame over a wireless backhaul network, wherein the first frame includes a plurality of slots;

detecting that a first slot of the plurality of slots includes a synchronization sequence (SS) followed by a random access configuration;

in response to the synchronization sequence and the random access configuration, performing a random access procedure by transmitting a random access signal according to the random access configuration;

receiving a second frame in response to the random access procedure; and

determining that the random access procedure is successful based on the second frame including a downlink (DL) time slot assignment for the wireless backhaul remote unit.

2. The method of claim 1 , wherein the random access configuration indicates a time slot assigned for performing the random access procedure.

3. The method of claim 1 , wherein the random access configuration includes a system bandwidth configuration, an antenna configuration, a frame configuration, a half frame number, an uplink-downlink (UL-DL) slot configuration, a random access time slot, a random access root sequence, a pilot sequence (PS) root sequence, or combinations thereof.

4. The method of claim 1 , wherein the random access configuration includes a transmission schedule for a next scheduling period, and wherein the transmission schedule comprises time slot assignments indicating at least one DL time slot assignment and at least one uplink (UL) time slot assignment for the wireless backhaul remote unit in a next scheduling period.

5. The method of claim 1 further comprising receiving, in the assigned DL time slot, a DL control frame and a DL data frame, and wherein the DL control frame comprises:

a DL physical layer transmission control comprising a first modulation coding scheme (MCS) and a first multiple-input-multiple-output (MIMO) configuration for decoding the DL data frame; and

a UL physical layer transmission control comprising a second MCS and a second MIMO configuration for transmitting UL signal in an assigned uplink time slot.

6. A wireless backhaul communication system comprising one or more processors; and a memory coupled to the one or more processors comprising instructions executable by the one or more processors to cause the one or more processors to:

receive a first frame that includes a set of slots;

detect a first slot that includes a synchronization sequence (SS) followed by a random access configuration;

perform a random access procedure by transmitting a random access signal according to the random access configuration;

receive a second frame in response to the random access procedure; and

determine that the random access procedure is successful based on the second frame including a downlink (DL) time slot assignment for the wireless backhaul communication system.

7. The system of claim 6 , wherein the random access configuration indicates a time slot assigned for performing the random access procedure.

8. The system of claim 6 , wherein the random access configuration includes a system bandwidth configuration, an antenna configuration, a frame configuration, a half frame number, an uplink-downlink (UL-DL) slot configuration, a random access time slot, a random access root sequence, a pilot sequence (PS) root sequence, or combinations thereof.

9. The system of claim 6 , wherein the random access configuration includes a transmission schedule for a next scheduling period, and wherein the transmission schedule comprises time slot assignments indicating at least one DL time slot assignment and at least one uplink (UL) time slot assignment for the wireless backhaul communication system in a next scheduling period.

10. The system of claim 6 wherein the instructions include further instructions to receive, in the assigned DL time slot, a DL control frame and a DL data frame, and wherein the DL control frame comprises:

a DL physical layer transmission control comprising a first modulation coding scheme (MCS) and a first multiple-input-multiple-output (MIMO) configuration for decoding the DL data frame; and

a UL physical layer transmission control comprising a second MCS and a second MIMO configuration for transmitting UL signal in an assigned uplink time slot.

11. A method comprising:

receiving, by a first network device, a first frame that includes a plurality of slots;

detecting, by the first network device, that a first slot of the plurality of slots includes a synchronization sequence followed by a physical broadcast channel block that includes a set of configuration information;

transmitting, by the first network device, a second frame to establish random access communication in response to the synchronization sequence and the set of configuration information; and

receiving, by the first network device, a third frame in response to the second frame, wherein the third frame includes a downlink time slot assignment for the first network device.

12. The method of claim 11 , wherein the second frame includes a random access preamble.

13. The method of claim 11 , wherein the synchronization sequence and the physical broadcast channel block are each conveyed by a same set of frequency sub-carriers.

14. The method of claim 11 , wherein:

the physical broadcast channel block is a first physical broadcast channel block;

the first frame includes a second slot that includes a second physical broadcast channel block; and
