Abstract

A device may be configured to receive a low level signaling emergency alert message fragment from a broadcast stream. The device may parse syntax elements included in the emergency alert message fragment. The device may determine whether to retrieve a media resource associated with the emergency alert message based on the parsed syntax elements.

Claims (23)

1. A primary device for transferring an emergency alert message, the primary device comprising:

a processor; and

a memory associated with the processor, wherein

the processor is configured to receive the emergency alert message and to transfer the emergency alert message to a companion device on a local area network,

the emergency alert message includes (i) an event description element representing a description of an emergency event and (ii) a live media element representing an identification of an Audio/Visual service,

the event description element includes a first language field identifying a language of the event description element of the emergency alert message,

the live media element includes (i) a bsid field representing an identifier of a broadcast stream which contains an emergency-related live Audio/Visual service, (ii) a service id field indicating a 16 bit integer that uniquely identifying the emergency-related live Audio/Visual service, (iii) a service name element representing a user-friendly name for a service where a live media is available that a receiver can present to a viewer when presenting an option to tune to the live media element, and (iv) a second language field identifying a language of the service name element of a live media stream, and

the first language field and the second language field are represented by formal natural language identifiers and not exceed 35 characters.

2. A companion device for receiving an emergency alert message, the companion device comprising:

a processor, and

a memory associated with the processor; wherein

the processor is configured to receive the emergency alert message from a primary device on a local area network,

the emergency alert message includes (i) an event description element representing a description of an emergency event and (ii) a live media element representing an identification of an Audio/Visual service,

the event description element includes a first language field identifying a language of the event description element of the emergency alert message,

the live media element includes (i) a bsid field representing an identifier of a broadcast stream which contains an emergency-related live Audio/Visual service, (ii) a service id field indicating a 16 bit integer that uniquely identifying the emergency-related live Audio/Visual service, (iii) a service name element representing a user-friendly name for a service where a live media is available that a receiver can present to a viewer when presenting an option to tune to the live media element, and (iv) a second language field identifying a language of the service name element of a live media stream, and

the first language field and the second language field are represented by formal natural language identifiers and not exceed 35 characters.

3. A method for transferring an emergency alert message, the method including:

receiving the emergency alert message; and

transferring the emergency alert message to a companion device on a local area network; wherein

the emergency alert message includes (i) an event description element representing a description of an emergency event and (ii) a live media element representing an identification of an Audio/Visual service,

the event description element includes a first language field identifying a language of the event description element of the emergency alert message,

the live media element includes (i) a bsid field representing an identifier of a broadcast stream which contains an emergency-related live Audio/Visual service, (ii) a service id field indicating a 16 bit integer that uniquely identifying the emergency-related live Audio/Visual service, (iii) a service name element representing a user-friendly name for a service where a live media is available that a receiver can present to a viewer when presenting an option to tune to the live media element, and (iv) a second language field identifying a language of the service name element of a live media stream, and

the first language field and the second language field are represented by formal natural language identifiers and not exceed 35 characters.
