Abstract

A novel cutting method and apparatus includes a cutting blade adapted to consistently and easily form a desirable kerf in a concrete substrate while capturing substantially all resulting concrete dust.

Claims (29)

1. A vacuum manifold for sawdust capture comprising:

an aperture through said flange portion for withdrawing said sawdust.

2. A vacuum manifold for sawdust capture as defined in claim 1 wherein said body portion further includes a lower surface region, said lower surface region including a first relatively distal internal edge and a second relatively proximal internal edge, said first and second internal edges being disposed in substantially parallel spaced relation to one another and, when in operation, on opposite sides of said saw blade such that a distance between said distal internal edge and said saw blade forms a blade location ratio with a distance between said proximal internal edge and said saw blade.

3. A vacuum manifold for sawdust capture as defined in claim 2 wherein said manifold is configured to have said blade location ratio within a range from at least about 20% to at least about 80%.

4. A vacuum manifold for sawdust capture as defined in claim 2 wherein said manifold is configured to have said blade location ratio substantially equal to 75%.

5. A vacuum manifold for sawdust capture as defined in claim 2 wherein said manifold is configured to have said blade location ratio substantially equal to 66%.

6. A vacuum manifold for sawdust capture as defined in claim 2 wherein a width between said first and second internal edges forms an aperture ratio with a length of said first and second internal edges.

7. A vacuum manifold for sawdust capture as defined in claim 6 wherein said vacuum manifold is configured to have said aperture ratio between at least about 20% and at least about 500%.

8. A vacuum manifold for sawdust capture, as defined in claim 6 wherein said vacuum manifold is configured to have said aperture ratio between at least about 50% and at least about 200%.

9. A vacuum manifold for sawdust capture comprising:

a flange portion and a body portion, said flange portion including a generally planar surface region oriented in a first orientation and an aperture through said flange portion for withdrawing said sawdust, said body portion having a generally circularly cylindrical internal surface region defining a cavity about a longitudinal axis thereof, said longitudinal axis being generally perpendicular to said generally planar surface region, said circularly cylindrical internal surface region bordered, in part, by a slot, said slot defining a slot plane, said slot plane being disposed substantially perpendicular to said longitudinal axis, said slot being sized and configured to receive a portion of a saw blade therethrough wherein said circularly cylindrical internal surface region is arranged and configured to promote the formation of vortices therewithin when in operation.

10. A vacuum manifold for sawdust capture as defined in claim 9 wherein said vortices include at least one of a Lamb-Oseen form vortex, a tornadic form vortex, a spheroidal form vortex, a Tollmien-Schlichting form vortex, a Blasius form vortex, a Navier-Stokes form vortex, and a Chorin form vortex.

11. A vacuum manifold for sawdust capture comprising:

a flange portion and a body portion, said flange portion including a generally planar surface region oriented in a first orientation, said body portion disposed inwardly of said flange portion and including a further substantially planar surface region disposed in substantially parallel spaced relation to said planar surface region, said body portion having a generally circularly cylindrical internal surface region defining a cavity about a longitudinal axis thereof, said longitudinal axis being generally perpendicular to said generally planar surface region, said circularly cylindrical internal surface region terminated, in part, by an arcuate edge, said arcuate edge defining a slot, said slot defining a slot plane, said slot plane being disposed substantially perpendicular to said longitudinal axis, said slot being sized and configured to receive a portion of a saw blade there through; and

a hose coupling tube disposed outwardly of said flange portion.

12. A vacuum manifold for sawdust capture as defined in claim 11 wherein said hose coupling tube has a further longitudinal axis, and wherein said further longitudinal axis is disposed at a passage angle with respect to said longitudinal axis.

13. A vacuum manifold for sawdust capture as defined in claim 12 wherein said passage angle comprises an angle within a range from at least about 30° to at least about 60°.

14. A vacuum manifold for sawdust capture as defined in claim 12 wherein said passage angle comprises an angle substantially equal to 7°.

15. A vacuum manifold for sawdust capture as defined in claim 12 wherein said passage angle comprises an angle of at least about 7.07°.

16. A vacuum manifold for sawdust capture as defined in claim 12 wherein said passage angle comprises an angle within a range from at least about 6° to at least about 8°.
