Abstract

A diaper includes a liquid permeable topsheet including a patterned apertured nonwoven material. The patterned apertured nonwoven material includes a plurality of land areas in the patterned apertured nonwoven material and a plurality of apertures defined in the patterned apertured nonwoven material. At least some land areas of the plurality of land areas surround at least some apertures of the plurality of apertures. The plurality of apertures are non-homogeneous in a repeat unit such that at least two apertures of the plurality of apertures have a different size or a different shape.

Claims (75)

a patterned apertured nonwoven material comprising:

a plurality of land areas in the patterned apertured nonwoven material; and

a plurality of apertures defined in the patterned apertured nonwoven material, wherein at least some land areas of the plurality of land areas surround at least some apertures of the plurality of apertures, and wherein the plurality of apertures each define an aperture area;

wherein the plurality of apertures are non-homogeneous in a repeat unit such that at least two apertures of the plurality of apertures have a different size or a different shape;

wherein the patterned apertured nonwoven material has an Effective Open Area of about 3% to about 30%, according to an Aperture Test;

wherein the Effective Open Area consists of (a sum of the aperture areas of the plurality of apertures)/(a total area of the patterned apertured nonwoven material)×100;

wherein the patterned apertured nonwoven material comprises:

a first nonwoven layer; and

a second nonwoven layer;

wherein the plurality of apertures are formed through the first nonwoven layer and the second nonwoven layer;

wherein the plurality of apertures each comprise a perimeter;

wherein portions of the perimeter of at least some apertures of the plurality of apertures comprise melt-fused portions;

wherein a first group of apertures of the plurality of apertures forms a heart shape;

wherein a second group of apertures of the plurality of apertures at least partially surrounds the heart shape; and

wherein at least one land area of the plurality of land areas is present intermediate the first group of apertures and the second group of apertures;

a liquid impermeable backsheet; and

an absorbent core at least partially intermediate the topsheet and the backsheet.

2. The diaper of claim 1 , wherein the patterned apertured nonwoven material has a plurality of Interaperture Distances, according to the Aperture Test, wherein the Interaperture Distances have a distribution having a median and a mean, and wherein the mean is different than the median.

3. The diaper of claim 2 , wherein the mean is about 4% to about 25% greater than the median.

4. The diaper of claim 2 , wherein the mean is less than the median.

5. The diaper of claim 1 , wherein the plurality of apertures have an Average Absolute Feret Angle of at least 20 degrees, according to the Aperture Test.

6. The diaper of claim 1 , wherein at least some apertures of the plurality of apertures have an Aspect Ratio greater than 2, according to the Aperture Test.

7. The diaper of claim 1 , wherein the Effective Open Area is about 5% to about 20%.

8. A diaper comprising:

a liquid permeable topsheet comprising:

a patterned apertured nonwoven material comprising:

a plurality of land areas in the patterned apertured nonwoven material; and

a plurality of apertures defined in the patterned apertured nonwoven material, wherein at least some land areas of the plurality of land areas surround at least some apertures of the plurality of apertures, and wherein the plurality of apertures each define an aperture area;

wherein the plurality of apertures are non-homogeneous in a repeat unit such that at least three apertures of the plurality of apertures have a different size or a different shape;

wherein at least some land areas of the plurality of land areas have a width of at least 5 mm, as measured between adjacent apertures;

wherein at least some apertures of the plurality of apertures have an Effective Aperture Area of about 0.3 mm 2 to about 15 mm 2 , according to an Aperture Test;

wherein the patterned apertured nonwoven material has an Effective Open Area of about 5% to about 30%, according to the Aperture Test;

wherein the Effective Open Area consists of (a sum of the aperture areas of the plurality of apertures)/(a total area of the patterned apertured nonwoven material)×100;

wherein the patterned apertured nonwoven material comprises:

a first nonwoven layer; and

a second nonwoven layer;

wherein the plurality of apertures are formed through the first nonwoven layer and the second nonwoven layer;

wherein the plurality of apertures each comprise a perimeter;

wherein portions of the perimeter of at least some apertures of the plurality of apertures comprise melt-fused portions;

wherein a first group of apertures of the plurality of apertures forms a heart shape;

wherein a second group of apertures of the plurality of apertures at least partially surrounds the heart shape; and

wherein at least one land area of the plurality of land areas is present intermediate the first group of apertures and the second group of apertures;

a liquid impermeable backsheet; and

an absorbent core at least partially intermediate the topsheet and the backsheet.

9. The diaper of claim 8 , wherein the width of the at least some land areas of the plurality of land areas is at least 10 mm.

10. The diaper of claim 8 , wherein the first nonwoven layer has a different opacity than the second nonwoven layer.

11. The diaper of claim 8 , wherein a patterned adhesive or a printed ink is positioned on the first nonwoven layer or the second nonwoven layer, and wherein the patterned adhesive or the printed ink has a color that is different than a color of the first nonwoven layer or the second nonwoven layer.

12. The diaper of claim 8 , wherein the Effective Open Area is about 5% to about 20%.

13. The diaper of claim 8 , wherein the absorbent article is a taped diaper.
