Abstract

A method and apparatus schedule uplink transmissions with reduced latency. A device can transmit a sidelink transmission in an in a transmit time interval. The device can transmit an uplink transmission in the same transmit time interval as the sidelink transmission.

Claims (43)

1. A method in a device, the method comprising:

determining a first set of symbols, of a transmit time interval, for a sidelink transmission;

determining a second set of symbols, of the transmit time interval, for an uplink transmission;

determining overlapping symbols of the first set of symbols and the second set of symbols;

transmitting, by the device, the sidelink transmission in a third set of symbols of the transmit time interval, where the third set of symbols excludes the overlapping symbols; and

transmitting, by the device, the uplink transmission in the second set of symbols of the transmit time interval.

2. The method according to claim 1 , further comprising dropping a symbol associated with the sidelink transmission, the symbol immediately preceding the second set of symbols.

3. The method according to claim 1 ,

wherein the transmit time interval is a first transmit time interval that has a first transmit time interval length, and

wherein the uplink transmission is transmitted using a second transmit time interval that has a transmit time interval length smaller than the first transmit time interval length, where the first transmit time interval and the second transmit time interval overlap in time.

4. The method according to claim 1 , wherein the symbols comprise single carrier-frequency division multiple access symbols.

5. An apparatus comprising:

a controller that

determines a first set of symbols, of a transmit time interval, for a sidelink transmission,

determines a second set of symbols, of the transmit time interval, for an uplink transmission, and

determines overlapping symbols of the first set of symbols and the second set of symbols; and

a transceiver that

transmits the sidelink transmission in a third set of symbols of the transmit time interval, where the third set of symbols excludes the overlapping symbols, and

transmits the uplink transmission in the second set of symbols of the transmit time interval.

6. The method according to claim 1 , further comprising indicating, by the device, the overlapping symbols to recipients of the sidelink transmission.

7. The method according to claim 6 , wherein indicating, by the device, the overlapping symbols to recipients of the sidelink transmission comprises sending, from the device, an indication on a sidelink channel, the indication indicating a location of the second set of symbols.

8. The method according to claim 7 , wherein the sidelink channel comprises a channel for communicating with at least one device capable of device-to-device operation.

9. The method according to claim 7 , wherein the indication is sent in a scheduling assignment transmitted by the device on the sidelink channel.

10. The method according to claim 7 , wherein the sidelink channel comprises at least one selected from a sidelink shared channel, sidelink control channel, and sidelink discovery channel.

11. The method according to claim 6 , further comprising comparing a number of symbols of the second set of symbols to a threshold,

wherein indicating, by the device, the overlapping symbols to recipients of the sidelink transmission comprises:

sending, from the device, an indication on a sidelink channel, the indication indicating the location of the second set of symbols used for an uplink transmission when the second set of symbols has less symbols than the threshold;

transmitting both a sidelink transmission and the uplink transmission in the transmit time interval when the second set of symbols has less symbols than the threshold; and

transmitting only the uplink transmission in the transmit time interval when the second set of symbols has symbols equal or greater than the threshold.

12. The method according to claim 11 , wherein transmitting only the uplink transmission further comprises dropping all sidelink transmissions scheduled to and from the device during the transmit time interval.

13. The method according to claim 6 , wherein indicating, by the device, the overlapping symbols to recipients of the sidelink transmission comprises indicating the location of the second set of symbols using a scrambling sequence used for the sidelink transmission.

14. The apparatus according to claim 5 , wherein the transceiver indicates the overlapping symbols to recipients of the sidelink transmission.

15. The apparatus according to claim 14 , wherein the transceiver indicates the overlapping symbols to recipients of the sidelink transmission by sending an indication on a sidelink channel, the indication indicating a location of the second set of symbols.

16. The apparatus according to claim 15 , wherein the sidelink channel comprises a channel for communicating with at least one device capable of device-to-device operation.

17. The apparatus according to claim 15 , wherein the indication is sent in a scheduling assignment transmitted by the device on the sidelink channel.

18. The apparatus according to claim 15 , wherein the sidelink channel comprises at least one selected from a sidelink shared channel, sidelink control channel, and sidelink discovery channel.

19. The apparatus according to claim 14 ,

wherein the controller compares a number of symbols of the second set of symbols to a threshold, and

wherein the transceiver indicates the overlapping symbols to recipients of the sidelink transmission by:

sending, from the device, an indication on a sidelink channel, the indication indicating the location of the second set of symbols used for an uplink transmission when the second set of symbols has less symbols than the threshold,

transmitting both a sidelink transmission and the uplink transmission in the transmit time interval when the second set of symbols has less symbols than the threshold, and

transmitting only the uplink transmission in the transmit time interval when the second set of symbols has symbols equal or greater than the threshold.

20. The apparatus according to claim 19 , wherein the transceiver transmits only the uplink transmission by dropping all sidelink transmissions scheduled to and from the device during the transmit time interval.
