Abstract

A cooking engagement system and methods therefore are provided. The system includes a cooktop appliance and an interactive assembly positioned above the cooktop appliance. The interactive assembly includes an image monitor that presents various images and information to a user, e.g., recipes. The system includes an infrared sensor for detecting operation of the cooktop appliance. When the infrared sensor senses a temperature level that exceeds a threshold, a controller communicatively coupled thereto activates an air handler to move or motivate an airflow across or about the image monitor. In this way, the image monitor may be cooled and condensation is prevented from forming on the imaging surface of the image monitor.

Claims (46)

1. A system defining a vertical direction, a lateral direction, and a transverse direction, the system comprising:

an interactive assembly, comprising:

a casing defining an air outlet;

an image monitor supported by the casing;

an air handler mounted within the casing;

an infrared sensor mounted to or within the casing; and

a controller communicatively coupled with the air handler and the infrared sensor, the controller configured to:

receive, from the infrared sensor, one or more signals indicative of a temperature level of air proximate the infrared sensor;

determine whether the temperature level has exceeded a predetermined activation threshold based at least in part on the one or more signals received from the infrared sensor; and

activate the air handler based at least in part on whether the temperature level has exceeded the predetermined activation threshold so that the air handler moves air through the air outlet to form an air curtain along at least a portion of a non-enclosed imaging surface of the image monitor.

2. The system of claim 1 , wherein the casing defines an air inlet, and wherein the air outlet is positioned above the image monitor along the vertical direction, and wherein the air curtain is defined along the at least a portion of the non-enclosed imaging surface of the image monitor along the vertical direction.

3. The system of claim 2 , wherein the air outlet is at least partially defined by a beveled surface configured to direct air downward along the vertical direction such that air moves along the air curtain when the air handler is activated.

4. The system of claim 1 , wherein the casing defines an air inlet and a second air outlet, and wherein the second air outlet is positioned below the image monitor along the vertical direction, and wherein when the air handler is activated, the air handler moves air through the second air outlet to the ambient environment along an airflow curtain path defined substantially orthogonal to the vertical direction.

5. The system of claim 1 , further comprising:

a cooktop appliance comprising a cooktop surface and one or more heating elements positioned at the cooktop surface, wherein the casing of the interactive assembly is positioned above the cooktop appliance along the vertical direction.

6. The system of claim 5 , wherein the infrared sensor is mounted to or within the casing such that the infrared sensor is aligned with one of the one or more heating elements along the lateral direction and the transverse direction.

7. The system of claim 5 , wherein the infrared sensor is mounted to or within the casing such that the infrared sensor is centered with respect to the one or more heating elements of the cooktop appliance along the lateral direction and the transverse direction.

8. The system of claim 5 , wherein the one or more heating elements of the cooktop appliance comprise a first heating element and a second heating element, the first heating element spaced from the second heating element, and wherein the infrared sensor is a first infrared sensor mounted to or within the casing such that the first infrared sensor is aligned with the first heating element along the lateral direction and the transverse direction, and wherein the cooking system further comprises:

a second infrared sensor mounted to or within the casing of the interactive assembly such that the second infrared sensor is aligned with the second heating element along the lateral direction and the transverse direction.

9. The system of claim 5 , wherein the cooktop appliance extends between a front portion and a rear portion along the transverse direction, and wherein the infrared sensor defines a sensing region that does not extend forward of the forward portion of the cooktop appliance.

10. The system of claim 1 , wherein when the controller determines whether the temperature level has exceeded the predetermined activation threshold based at least in part on the one or more signals received from the infrared sensor, the controller is configured to: ascertain whether the temperature level has increased by a predetermined amount over a predetermined time period.

11. A system defining a vertical direction, a lateral direction, and a transverse direction, the system comprising:

an interactive assembly, comprising:

a casing defining an air inlet, a first air outlet, and a second air outlet;

an image monitor supported by the casing;

an air handler mounted within the casing;

an infrared sensor mounted to or within the casing; and

a controller communicatively coupled with the air handler and the infrared sensor, the controller configured to:

receive, from the infrared sensor, one or more signals indicative of a temperature level of air proximate the infrared sensor;

determine whether the temperature level has exceeded a predetermined activation threshold based at least in part on the one or more signals received from the infrared sensor; and

activate the air handler based at least in part on whether the temperature level has exceeded the predetermined activation threshold so that the air handler moves air through the first air outlet to form an air curtain along at least a portion of a non-enclosed imaging surface of the image monitor and through the second air outlet to the ambient environment along an airflow curtain path defined substantially orthogonal to the vertical direction.

12. The system of claim 11 , wherein the infrared sensor is mounted proximate a bottom end of the non-enclosed imaging surface of the image monitor.

13. A method for operating a system comprising an interactive assembly, the method comprising:

receiving one or more signals from an infrared sensor indicative of a temperature level of air proximate the infrared sensor, the infrared sensor disposed proximate an image monitor of the interactive assembly;

determining whether the temperature level proximate the infrared sensor has exceeded a predetermined activation threshold based at least in part on the one or more signals from the infrared sensor; and

activating an air handler disposed within a casing of the interactive assembly based at least in part on whether the temperature level has exceeded the predetermined activation threshold so that the air handler moves air through an air outlet defined by the casing to form an air curtain along at least a portion of a non-enclosed imaging surface of the image monitor.

14. The method of claim 13 , wherein the non-enclosed imaging surface of the image monitor is a touchscreen.

15. The method of claim 13 , wherein the system defines a vertical direction, and wherein the casing defines an air inlet and a second air outlet defined below the image monitor along the vertical direction, the air outlet being a first air outlet defined above the image monitor along the vertical direction, and wherein during activating the air handler disposed within the casing of the interactive assembly based at least in part on whether the temperature level has exceeded the predetermined activation threshold, the air handler moves air through the second air outlet to the ambient environment along an airflow curtain path defined substantially orthogonal to the vertical direction.

16. The method of claim 13 , wherein the infrared sensor is mounted proximate a bottom end of the non-enclosed imaging surface of the image monitor.

17. The method of claim 13 , wherein determining whether the temperature level has exceeded the predetermined activation threshold based at least in part on the one or more signals from the infrared sensor comprises ascertaining whether the temperature level has increased by a predetermined amount over a predetermined time period.
