6. The lighting system of claim 1 , wherein the first controller and the at least one first light source are part of a first light fixture.

7. The lighting system of claim 6 , wherein the first light fixture meets applicable standards for a hazardous environment.

8. The lighting system of claim 1 , wherein the at least one first light source further has a third operating mode that differs from the first operating mode and the second operating mode.

9. The lighting system of claim 8 , further comprising:

a first sensor coupled to the first controller, wherein the first sensor measures a first parameter within the facility, wherein the third operating mode is unassociated with the first operating mode and the second operating mode of the at least one first light source,

wherein the first controller, upon determining that the first parameter measured by the first sensor falls outside a first range of acceptable values, instructs the at least one first light source to operate in the third operating mode.

10. The lighting system of claim 9 , wherein the first sensor is located remotely from the at least one first light source and is intrinsically safe.

11. The lighting system of claim 9 , wherein the first controller instructs the first sensor to measure the first parameter.

12. The lighting system of claim 1 , further comprising:

at least one second light source operatively coupled to the first controller, wherein the at least one second light source is disposed at a third location of the plurality of locations at the facility, wherein the at least one second light source has a third operating mode and a fourth operating mode,

wherein the first controller further:

maps the at least one second light source at the third location at the facility;

identifies the third location as having a third operating designation;

instructs the at least one second light source to operate in the third operating mode during third normal operating conditions consistent with the third operating designation at the third location; and

instructs the at least one first light source to operate in the fourth operating mode during the first variance from the second normal operating conditions at the second location.

13. The lighting system of claim 1 , further comprising:

at least one second light source operatively coupled to the first controller, wherein the at least one second light source is disposed at a third location of the plurality of locations at the facility, wherein the at least one second light source has a third operating mode and the first operating mode,

wherein the first controller further:

maps the at least one second light source at the third location at the facility;

identifies the third location as having the first operating designation;

instructs the at least one second light source to operate in the first operating mode during the first normal operating conditions consistent with the first operating designation at the third location; and

instructs the at least one second light source to operate in the third operating mode during the first variance from the second normal operating conditions at the second location.

14. The lighting system of claim 1 , further comprising:

at least one second light source disposed at a third location of the plurality of locations at the facility, wherein the at least one second light source has a third operating mode and a fourth operating mode; and

a second controller operatively coupled to the at least one second light source, wherein the second controller:

maps the at least one second light source at the third location at the facility;

identifies the third location as having a third operating designation;

instructs the at least one second light source to operate in the third operating mode during third normal operating conditions consistent with a third operating designation at the third location;

determines, from the first controller, the first variance from the second normal operating conditions at the second location; and

instructs the at least one second light source to operate in the fourth operating mode during the first variance from the second normal operating conditions at the second location.

15. A controller of a lighting system, the controller comprising:

memory comprising a plurality of instructions; and

a control engine coupled to the memory, wherein the control engine is configured to use the instructions to:

map at least one first light source of the lighting system at a first location of a plurality of locations at the facility, wherein the at least one first light source has a first operating mode and a second operating mode;

identify the first location as having a first normal operating designation;

instruct the at least one first light source to operate in the first operating mode during first normal operating conditions consistent with the first normal operating designation at the first location;

determine a first variance from second normal operating conditions at a second location, wherein the first variance is inconsistent with a second operating designation at the second location; and

instruct the at least one first light source to operate in the second operating mode during the first variance from the second normal operating conditions at the second location.

16. The controller of a claim 15 , wherein the controller is further configured to use the instructions to:

receive a plurality of measurements of a first parameter made by a sensor device, wherein the sensor device measures the first parameter at the first location at the facility, wherein the first parameter is unassociated with the first operating mode and the second operating mode of the at least one first light source;

determine that the first parameter measured by the sensor device falls outside a range of acceptable values; and

instruct the at least one first light source to operate in a third operating mode while the first parameter remains outside the range of acceptable values.

17. The controller of a claim 15 , wherein the controller is further configured to use the instructions to:

map at least one second light source of the lighting system at a third location of the plurality of locations at the facility, wherein the at least one second light source has a third operating mode and a fourth operating mode;

identify the third location as having a third operating designation; and

instruct the at least one second light source to operate in the fourth operating mode during the first variance from the second normal operating conditions at the second location.

18. A method for controlling a first light source at a facility, the method comprising:

identifying, by a controller, the first light source having a first operating mode and a second operating mode;

mapping, by the controller, the first light source at a first location of a plurality of locations at the facility;

identifying, by the controller, the first location as having a first normal operating designation;

instructing, by the controller, the first light source to operate in the first operating mode during first normal operating conditions consistent with the first normal operating designation at the first location;

determining a first variance from second normal operating conditions at a second location, wherein the first variance is inconsistent with a second operating designation at the second location; and

instructing, by the controller, the first light source to operate in the second operating mode during the first variance from the second normal operating conditions at the second location.

19. The method of a claim 18 , further comprising:

receiving a plurality of measurements of a parameter made by a sensor device, wherein the sensor device measures the parameter at the first location at the facility, wherein the first parameter is unassociated with the first operating mode and the second operating mode of the first light source;

determining that the parameter measured by the sensor device falls outside a range of acceptable values; and

instructing the first light source to operate in a third operating mode while the parameter remains outside the range of acceptable values.

20. The method of claim 19 , further comprising:

sending, upon determining that the parameter measured by the sensor device falls outside the range of acceptable values, instructions to an additional controller,

wherein the instructions instruct the additional controller to cause a second light source to change from a fourth operating mode to a fifth operating mode while the parameter measured by the sensor device falls outside the range of acceptable values.
