Abstract

Embodiments described herein are generally directed to a sequence encoding engine to apply pseudo-random label assignments to packets within a single transmission burst. They may also include a modulation circuit coupled to the sequence encoding engine to modulate signals to burst transmit the packets. These burst transmissions may travel along a plurality of radio access pathways. In embodiments, the pseudo-random label assignments to the packets within the single transmission burst using a van der Corput sequence, or some other sequence for example a digit-reversed base-N representation of a packet sequence number, wherein N is a number of the selected ones of the plurality of radio access pathways, for example but not limited to a LTE or a Wi-Fi pathway.

Claims (38)

1. An apparatus comprising:

a sequence encoding engine to apply pseudo-random label assignments to packets within a single transmission burst;

a modulation circuit coupled to the sequence encoding engine to modulate signals to burst transmit the packets over selected ones of a plurality of radio access pathways, based at least in part on the pseudo-randomly assigned labels of the packets; and

wherein the sequence encoding engine is arranged to apply the pseudo-random label assignments to the packets within the single transmission burst by applying a function to the packet sequence numbers of the packets.

2. The apparatus of claim 1 , wherein the sequence encoding engine is arranged to apply the pseudo-random label assignments to the packets within the single transmission burst using a van der Corput sequence.

3. The apparatus of claim 1 , wherein the function uses a digit-reversed base-N representation of a packet sequence number, wherein N is a number of selected ones of the plurality of radio access pathways.

4. The apparatus of claim 1 , wherein the radio access pathways include a cellular data path or a Wi-Fi path.

5. An apparatus comprising:

a modulation circuit to receive packets of a burst transmission having pseudo-random label assignments;

a sequence decoding engine coupled to the modulation circuit to decode pseudo-random labels from packets received from the transmission burst; and

wherein the pseudo-random labels are assigned using a function of packet sequence numbers of the packets.

6. The apparatus of claim 5 , wherein the sequence decoding engine is further to determine, based upon the decoded pseudo-random labels for each received packet of the burst transmission, one of a plurality of radio access pathways over which the packet was transmitted.

7. The apparatus of claim 6 , wherein the sequence decoding engine is further to identify, based upon the decoded pseudo-random labels for each received packet of the burst transmission, whether a packet transmitted over one of the plurality of radio access pathways was dropped in transmission.

8. The apparatus of claim 5 , wherein the function is a van der Corput sequence or a digit-reversed base-N representation of a packet sequence number, wherein N is a number of a plurality of radio access pathways.

9. A method comprising:

identifying a plurality of packets to burst transmit;

identifying a plurality of radio access pathways;

identifying a proportion of the plurality of packets to be transmitted, respectively, on the plurality of the radio access pathways;

generating, based on a number of the identified plurality of packets, the identified proportion, and a number of the plurality of radio access pathways, a pseudo-random label for each of the plurality of packets; and

wherein the pseudo-random label is a function of packet sequence numbers of the plurality of packets.

10. The method of claim 9 , further comprising transmitting the plurality of packets in a burst.

11. The method of claim 10 , wherein transmitting the plurality of packets in a burst further includes transmitting the plurality of packets on the plurality of the radio access pathways based at least in part on the pseudo-randomly assigned labels of the packets.

12. The method of claim 9 , wherein identifying the proportion further includes identifying the proportion to increase total packet throughput along the plurality of radio access pathways.

13. The method of claim 9 , wherein the pseudo-random label for each of the plurality of packets is based upon a van der Corput sequence.

14. The method of claim 9 , wherein the function is a digit-reversed base-N representation of a packet sequence number, wherein N is a number of the plurality of radio access pathways.

15. The method of claim 9 , wherein the radio access pathways include a cellular data path or a Wi-Fi path.

16. A method comprising:

identifying a received plurality of packets from a burst transmission;

decoding, respectively, a label of the received plurality of packets, wherein the label is a pseudo-random label to determine a sequence and a radio access pathway of the packet; and

wherein the pseudo-random label for each of the plurality of packets is based on a function of a packet sequence number of the plurality of packets.

17. The method of claim 16 , wherein the radio access pathway is one of a plurality of radio access pathways.

18. The method of claim 17 , wherein the plurality of radio access pathways include a cellular data path or a Wi-Fi path.

19. The method of claim 16 , wherein the pseudo-random label for each of the plurality of packets is based upon a van der Corput sequence.

20. The method of claim 16 , wherein the function is a digit-reversed base-N representation of a packet sequence number, wherein N is a number of a plurality of radio access pathways.

21. The method of claim 16 , further comprising identifying a missing first packet and the first radio access pathway upon which the first packet was to be sent based upon a decoded pseudo-random label of a second received packet.

22. The method of claim 16 , further comprising determining a sequence number of a packet based upon the decoded label of the packet.

23. The method of claim 16 , further comprising receiving a message to indicate a decoding scheme for the plurality of packets in the burst transmission.

24. The method of claim 23 , wherein the message includes an indication of a base number corresponding to a number of radio access pathways over which the plurality of packets may be transmitted.
