Abstract

In one aspect, a computerized method useful for three-dimensional (3D) model data rendering and information capturing during a vehicle inspection check-in process for service comprising includes the step of providing a vehicle for a check-in inspection. The computerized method includes the step of obtaining a vehicle identification number (VIN) of the vehicle. The computerized method includes the step of, based on the VIN of the vehicle, obtaining a 3D vehicle model data. The 3D vehicle model data matches a type of the vehicle. The 3D vehicle model data is generated from a manufacturer's three-dimensional (3D) computer-aided design (CAD) model data of the type of the vehicle.

Claims (40)

1. A computerized method useful for three-dimensional (3) model data rendering and information capturing during a vehicle inspection check-in process for service comprising:

obtaining, by a service provider's mobile device, a vehicle identification number (VIN) of a vehicle located at a dealership during a vehicle inspection check-in process for service of the vehicle;

based on the VIN of the vehicle, obtaining, by the service provider's mobile device, a 3D vehicle model that matches a type of the vehicle, and wherein the 3D vehicle model data is generated from a manufacturer's three-dimensional (3) computer-aided design (CAD) model data of the type of the vehicle;

with the 3D vehicle model data, rendering, by the service provider's mobile device, a 3D vehicle model of the type of the vehicle;

displaying, by the service provider's mobile device, the 3D vehicle model of the type of the vehicle;

receiving user gestures on the 3D vehicle model after the display of the 3D vehicle model on the service provider's mobile device, the received user gestures indicating a specific type of damage on the vehicle and a location of damage on the 3D vehicle model that corresponds to a location of the damage on the vehicle;

tagging, by the service provider's mobile device, the location of the damage on the 3D vehicle model with the specific type of damage based on the received user gestures;

automatically generating, by the service provider's mobile device, a rich data set based on the location of the damage on the 3D vehicle model and the specific type of damage, the rich data set comprising the location of the damage on the 3D vehicle model the specific type of damage, and a recommendation of a specific part number of a part of the vehicle to fix the damage on the vehicle; and

displaying, by service provider's mobile device, the rich data set to the service provider for the service of the vehicle, the rich data set including at least the recommendation of the specific part number of the part of the vehicle to fix the damage on the vehicle.

2. The computerized method of claim 1 further comprising:

based on the rich data set specific to the vehicle, automatically implementing a vehicle check-in service or repair operation.

3. The computerized method of claim 2 , wherein the manufacturer's three-dimensional (3D) CAD model data comprises a set of manufacturing design data for a specific year of the vehicle, a specific model of the vehicle and a specific make of the vehicle, and

wherein the specific year, specific model and specific make are included in the 3D vehicle model displayed on the service provider's mobile device.

4. The computerized method of claim 3 , wherein the type of the vehicle comprises a sedan, a sports utility vehicle or a truck.

5. The computerized method of claim 1 , wherein automatically generating the rich data set comprises:

automatically determining a recommendation of a specific service to perform on the vehicle based on the specific part number of the part of the vehicle recommended to fix the damage on the vehicle;

displaying the recommendation of the specific service on the service provider's mobile device.

6. The computerized method of claim 5 , wherein the rich data set further comprises a digital video of a portion of the vehicle, a microphone recording of a vehicle operation and a service consultant input.

7. The computerized method of claim 6 , wherein obtaining the VIN of the vehicle further comprises one of: coupling the vehicle with a passthrough on-board diagnostic (OBD) device and receiving the VIN from the passthrough OBD device, or receiving a manual input of the VIN into the service provider's mobile device by the service provider.

8. A computer system for three-dimensional (3D) model data rendering and information capturing during a vehicle inspection check-in process comprising:

a processor;

a memory containing instructions when executed on the processor, causes the processor to perform operations that:

obtain, by the computer system of a service provider, a vehicle identification number (VIN) of a vehicle located at a dealership during a vehicle inspection check-in process for service of the vehicle;

based on the VIN of the vehicle, obtain, by the computer system of the service provider, a 3D vehicle model data that, wherein the 3D vehicle model data matches a type of the vehicle, and wherein the 3D vehicle model data is generated from a manufacturer's three-dimensional (3D) computer-aided design (CAD) model data of the type of the vehicle;

with the 3D vehicle model data, render, by the computer system of the service provider, a 3D vehicle model of the type of the vehicle;

display, by the computer system of the service provider, the 3D vehicle model of the type of the vehicle;

receiving user gestures on the 3D vehicle model after the display of the 3D vehicle model on the computer system of the service provider, the received user gestures indicating a specific type of damage on the vehicle and a location of damage on the 3D vehicle model that corresponds to a location of the damage on the vehicle;

tag, by the computer system of the service provider, the location of the damage on the 3D vehicle model with the specific type of damage based on the received user gestures; and

automatically generate, by the computer system of the service provider, a rich data set based on the location of the damage on the 3D vehicle model and the specific type of damage, the rich data set comprising the location of the damage on the 3D vehicle model, the specific type of damage, and a recommendation of a specific part number of a part of the vehicle to fix the damage on the vehicle; and

display, by the computer system of the service provider, the rich data set to the service provider for the service of the vehicle, the rich data set including at least the recommendation of the specific part number of the part of the vehicle to fix the damage on the vehicle.

9. The computerized system of claim 8 , wherein based on the rich data set specific to the vehicle, a vehicle check-in service or repair operation is automatically implemented.

10. The computerized system of claim 9 ,

wherein the manufacturer's three-dimensional (3D) CAD model data comprises a set of manufacturing design data for a specific year of the vehicle, a specific model of the vehicle and a specific make of the vehicle, and

wherein the specific year, specific model and specific make are included in the 3D vehicle model displayed on the service provider's mobile device.

11. The computerized system of claim 8 , wherein automatically generating the rich data set comprises:

automatically determining a recommendation of a specific service to perform on the vehicle based on the specific part of the vehicle recommended to fix the damage on the vehicle;

displaying the recommendation of the specific service on the computer system of the service provider.

12. The computerized system of claim 8 , wherein the VIN of the vehicle is obtained by coupling the vehicle with a passthrough on-board diagnostic (OBD) device and receiving the VIN via the passthrough OBD device, or receiving a manual input of the VIN into the service provider's computer system.

13. The computerized system of claim 8 , wherein the rich data set further comprises a digital video of a portion of the vehicle, a microphone recording of a vehicle operation and a service consultant input.

14. The computerized method of claim 1 , wherein the 3D vehicle model displayed by the service provider's mobile device initially lacks any tagged locations of damage on the 3D vehicle model until the location of the damage is tagged on the 3D vehicle model with the specific type of damage based on the received user gestures.
