Abstract

Systems and methods using a network of wearable devices to support secure payment for a user are described. The network of wearable devices may include a wearable secure unit including a first short-range transceiver, a wearable sensory unit including a second short-range transceiver, and a wearable communication unit including a third short-range transceiver and a long-range transceiver. The systems and methods may include receiving a transaction request from a merchant device. Thereafter, the systems and methods may obtain information from the wearable secure unit configured to provide an environment in which processes and data are securely stored and executed. The systems and methods may also obtain information from the wearable sensory unit configured to capture and compare biometrics of the user with a stored profile. Based on the obtained information, the systems and methods may instruct the wearable communication unit to transmit to the merchant device user authentication data.

Claims (47)

1. A wearable device of a network of wearable devices for supporting secure payment by a user, comprising:

a short-range transceiver configured to communicate with at least two other short-range transceivers to form a wireless personal mesh network, each short-range transceiver being associated with a separate wearable device of the network of wearable devices;

a secure element configured to provide an environment in which processes and data are securely stored and executed, the secure element including memory storing a plurality of virtual slots, each virtual slot of the plurality of virtual slots storing virtual tokens associated with one or more financial accounts; and

at least one processor configured to:

receive a transaction request from a merchant device;

obtain authentication information from a first wearable device of the network of wearable devices, wherein the first wearable device is associated with a first short-range transceiver of the at least two other short-range transceivers;

identify a virtual token stored in an active slot of the plurality of virtual slots when the transaction request is received, wherein only one of the plurality of virtual slots is active at a time and the active slot rotates among the plurality of virtual slots over time; and

instruct a second wearable device of the network of wearable devices associated with (i) a second short-range transceiver of the at least two other short-range transceivers and (ii) a long-range transceiver to transmit the virtual token stored in the active slot when the transaction request is received and the authentication information to the merchant device.

2. The wearable device of claim 1 , further comprising:

an apparatus configured to harvest energy from movement of the user or harvest energy from at least one solar cell for powering the wearable device.

3. The wearable device of claim 2 , further comprising:

a battery for storing the harvested energy.

4. The wearable device of claim 2 , further comprising:

a near field communication (NFC) transceiver.

5. The wearable device of claim 1 , wherein the first wearable device includes a biometric sensor configured to capture and compare biometrics of the user with a stored profile to authenticate the user to access the secure element.

6. The wearable device of claim 5 , wherein the biometric sensor configured to detect a breathing pattern of the user.

7. The wearable device of claim 1 , wherein the short-range transceiver has a range of less than 2 meters.

8. The wearable device of claim 1 , wherein the short-range transceiver has a transmission power of between 0 dBm and 22 dBm.

9. The wearable device of claim 1 , wherein the short-range transceiver is configured to relay information to the at least two other short-range transceivers.

10. The wearable device of claim 1 , wherein the virtual token stored in the active slot is associated with at least one of the one or more financial accounts.

11. The wearable device of claim 1 , wherein the at least one processor is further configured to determine when a member of the network of wearable devices has lost connectivity to indicate that the network of wearable devices is compromised.

12. A method for using a network of wearable devices to support secure payment for a user, the method comprising:

receiving a transaction request from a merchant device;

obtain authentication information from a first wearable device of the network of wearable devices, wherein the first wearable device is associated with a first short-range transceiver configured to communicate with at least two other short-range transceivers to form a wireless personal mesh network, and wherein each short-range transceiver is associated with a separate wearable device of the network of wearable devices;

accessing a secure element configured to provide an environment in which processes and data are securely stored and executed, the secure element including memory storing a plurality of virtual slots, each virtual slot of the plurality of virtual slots storing virtual tokens associated with one or more financial accounts;

identifying a virtual token stored in an active slot of the plurality of virtual slots when the transaction request is received, wherein only one of the plurality of virtual slots is active at a time and the active slot rotates among the plurality of virtual slots over time; and

instructing a second wearable device of the network of wearable devices associated with (i) a second short-range transceiver of the at least two other short-range transceivers and (ii) a long-range transceiver to transmit the virtual token stored in the active slot when the transaction request is received and the authentication information to the merchant device.

13. The method of claim 12 , further comprising:

determining when a member of the network of wearable devices has lost connectivity.

14. The method of claim 12 , further comprising:

obtaining energy harvested from movement of the user of from at least one solar cell of at least one wearable device of the network of wearable devices to be used to power the at least one wearable device.

15. The method of claim 12 , further comprising:

capturing biometrics of the user from a biometric sensor, wherein the first wearable device comprises the biometric sensor; and

comparing the biometrics of the user with a stored profile to authenticate the user to access the secure element.

16. A non-transitory computer-readable medium storing computer program instructions that, when executed by one or more processors, effectuate operations comprising:

receiving a transaction request from a merchant device;

obtain authentication information from a first wearable device of a network of wearable devices, wherein the first wearable device is associated with a first short-range transceiver configured to communicate with at least two other short-range transceivers to form a wireless personal mesh network, and wherein each short-range transceiver is associated with a separate wearable device of the network of wearable devices;

accessing a secure element configured to provide an environment in which processes and data are securely stored and executed, the secure element including memory storing a plurality of virtual slots, each virtual slot of the plurality of virtual slots storing virtual tokens associated with one or more financial accounts;

identifying a virtual token stored in an active slot of the plurality of virtual slots when the transaction request is received, wherein only one of the plurality virtual slots is active at a time and the active slot rotates among the plurality of virtual slots over time; and
