Abstract

A standoff regulator that has a handle that is adjustably associated with a bracket, with the handle self-latching in relation to the bracket at a desired position and at a desired quantifiable torque.

Claims (29)

1. A standoff regulator, comprising:

a bracket;

a handle; and

an adjustable coupler assembly that adjustably associates the handle with the bracket by allowing the handle to self-latch at an adjusted position and at an adjustable holding strength in relation to the bracket;

the adjustable coupler assembly is comprised of:

a biasing mechanism that facilitates self-latching of the handle; and

a coupler that facilitates the adjustable holding strength of the handle;

wherein: the holding strength of the handle at the adjusted position is modified by an application of torque to the coupler, which varies a compression force of the biasing mechanism to adjust and tighten the holding strength of the handle at a fixed adjusted position in relation to the bracket.

2. The standoff regulator as set, forth in claim 1 , wherein:

the adjustable coupler assembly enables reciprocating lateral as well as reciprocating back-and-forth movement of the handle.

3. The standoff regulator as set forth in claim 1 , wherein:

the bracket includes a position-setting opening.

4. The standoff regulator as set forth in claim 1 , wherein:

the handle is comprised of a single piece, having:

a latch-index that latches the handle at the adjusted position while providing indexing information to indicate the angular position of the handle; and

an attachment section, for accommodating the adjustable coupler assembly.

5. The standoff regulator as set forth in claim 4 , wherein:

the latch-index is an engagement probe that inserts into a position-setting opening on the bracket.

6. The standoff regulator as set forth in claim 4 , wherein:

the attachment section includes:

an elongated hollow portion comprised of a through-hole opening with an internal configuration commensurate with cross-sectional profile of a shaft of a damper;

the elongated hollow portion extends longitudinally through the handle, transverse a longitudinal axis of the handle;

the elongated hollow portion is adapted to receive the adjustable coupler assembly.

7. The standoff regulator as set forth in claim 1 , wherein:

the coupler adjustably secures the biasing mechanism onto an engagement portion of the handle at the adjustable holding, strength in relation to the bracket.

8. The standoff regulator as set forth in claim 1 , wherein:

the biasing mechanism is a resilient member.

9. The standoff regulator as set forth in claim 7 , wherein:

the biasing mechanism dampens external vibrations experienced at the attachment section of the handle.
