Abstract

An apparatus for effecting a commercial transaction with a remote transaction server using a payment device via a communication device is provided. The apparatus includes a transaction device coupled with the communication device for capturing information stored on said payment device and a controller for converting the captured information into encrypted information and for transmitting the encrypted information to the communication device. The communication device delivers the encrypted information to the remote transaction server for processing the commercial transaction.

Claims (29)

1. An apparatus for effecting a commercial transaction for a user between a point of sale device coupled to a communication device and a remote transaction server, said apparatus comprising:

said point of sale device coupled to an input device for reading payment information stored on a payment device;

said user entering additional transactional information on a user interface of said point of sale device;

said communication device receiving said payment information and said additional transaction information and converting said payment information and said additional transaction information into a form suitable for transmission via an audio jack of the communication device to the remote transaction server via a network;

wherein the remote transaction server processes said payment information and said additional transaction information to effect said commercial transaction.

2. An apparatus according to claim 1 , wherein said user interface is selected from the group consisting of: an alphanumeric keypad, a touch screen, a fingerprint scanner, an optical scanner, a signature pad, a proximity detector, an audio recording device, a camera and any combination thereof.

3. An apparatus according to claim 1 , wherein said input device is selected from a group consisting of a chip card, EMV card, proximity detector or NFC card, contactless card, mobile NFC device, a mobile phone, a cellular phone, a personal digital assistant (PDA), a Smart Phone™, a Blackberry™, an iPhone™, an iPad™, a wearable device, a tablet or any combination thereof.

4. An apparatus according to claim 1 , wherein said payment information and said additional transaction information transmitted via the network to said remote transaction server are encrypted.

5. An apparatus according to claim 1 , wherein the network comprises at least one link selected from the group consisting of a wired connection, a wireless connection, an analog channel, a digital channel, Bluetooth connection, a USB connection, a Wi-Fi connection and any combination thereof.

6. An apparatus according to claim 1 , wherein said point of sale device receives transaction validation information from said remote transaction server.

7. An apparatus according to claim 1 , wherein said communication device comprises a device selected from a wireless communication device, a landline phone, a mobile phone, a cellular phone, a personal digital assistant (PDA), a Smart Phone™, a Blackberry™, an iPhone™, an iPad™, a wearable device and a tablet.

8. An apparatus according to claim 1 , wherein said additional transactional information selected from the group consisting of a password, Personal Identification Number (PIN), a Card Verification Code (CVC) and any combination thereof.

9. A method for effecting a commercial transaction for a user between a point of sale device coupled to a communication device and a remote transaction server, the method comprising:

reading, by an input device coupled to said point of sale device, payment information stored on a payment device;

entering, by said user, additional transactional information on a user interface of said point of sale device;

receiving, at said communication device, said payment information and said additional transaction information and converting said payment information and said additional transaction information into a form suitable for transmitting via an audio jack of the communication device to the remote transaction server via a network;

processing, at said remote transaction server, said payment information and said additional transaction information to effect said commercial transaction.

10. A method according to claim 9 , wherein said input device comprises a user interface for receiving additional transactional information, said user interface selected from the group consisting of: an alphanumeric keypad, a touch screen, a fingerprint scanner, an optical scanner, a signature pad, a proximity detector, an audio recording device, a camera and any combination thereof.

11. A method according to claim 9 , wherein said payment device is selected from the group consisting of a debit card, a credit card, a cash card, a stored value card, an ATM card, a chip card, EMV card, NFC card, contactless card and any combination thereof.

12. A method according to claim 9 , wherein said payment information and said additional transaction information transmitted via the network to said remote transaction server are encrypted.

13. A method according to claim 9 , wherein the network comprises at least one link selected from the group consisting of a wired connection, a wireless connection, an analog channel, a digital channel, Bluetooth connection, a USB connection, a Wi-Fi connection and any combination thereof.

14. A method according to claim 9 , wherein said point of sale device receives transaction validation information from said remote transaction server.

15. A method according to claim 9 , wherein the communication device comprises a device selected from a wireless communication device, a landline phone, a mobile phone, a cellular phone, a personal digital assistant (PDA), a Smart Phone™, a Blackberry™, an iPhone™, an iPad™, a wearable device and a tablet.

16. A method according to claim 15 , wherein said additional transactional information comprises a password, Personal Identification Number (PIN), a Card Verification Code (CVC) and any combination thereof.

17. An apparatus for effecting a commercial transaction for a user between a point of sale device coupled to a communication device and a remote transaction server, said apparatus comprising:

said point of sale device coupled to an input device for reading payment information stored on a payment device;

said user entering a Personal Identification Number (PIN) on a touch screen display of said point of sale device;

said communication device receiving said payment information and said additional transaction information and converting said payment information and said additional transaction information into a form suitable for transmission via an audio jack of the communication device to the remote transaction server via a network;

wherein the remote transaction server processes said payment information and said PIN to effect said commercial transaction.
