Abstract

A base station device broadcasts a base station identifier. The base station identifier is assigned to the base station device, and is broadcasted in one or more system information messages that are receivable by user devices located within a threshold distance from the base station device. The base station device determines whether the base station identifier is to be altered, and processes the base station identifier to generate an altered base station identifier for the base station device. The base station device performs one or more actions to cause the altered base station identifier to be broadcasted. The altered base station identifier is broadcasted in one or more additional system information messages that are receivable by the user devices.

Claims (93)

1. A base station device, comprising:

one or more memories; and

one or more processors, communicatively coupled to the one or more memories, to:

broadcast a base station identifier,

the base station identifier being assigned to the base station device, and

the base station identifier being broadcasted in one or more messages that are receivable by permitted user devices;

initiate a timer;

process the base station identifier to generate an altered base station identifier for the base station device based on determining that the timer expired,

the altered base station identifier generated to deter non-permitted user devices from relying on the base station identifier; and

perform one or more actions to cause the altered base station identifier to be broadcasted,

the altered base station identifier being broadcasted in one or more additional messages that are receivable by the permitted user devices.

2. The base station device of claim 1 , wherein the one or more processors, when initiating the timer, are to:

set the timer based on of:

periodicity, or

frequency at which the altered base station identifier is generated.

3. The base station device of claim 1 , wherein the one or more processors are further to:

periodically alter a value associated with an expiration of the timer.

4. The base station device of claim 1 , wherein:

the base station identifier includes physical cell identifier associated with a first value, and

the altered base station identifier includes the physical cell identifier associated with a second value,

the second value being different than the first value.

5. The base station device of claim 1 , wherein the base station identifier includes a physical cell identifier, and

wherein the one or more processors, when processing the base station identifier to generate an altered base station identifier, are to:

process the base station identifier to generate the altered base station identifier by one or more of:

adding a value to the physical cell identifier,

subtracting a value from the physical cell identifier,

multiplying the physical cell identifier by a value, or

dividing the physical cell identifier by a value.

6. The base station device of claim 1 , wherein a value of the base station identifier is stored in a location-based service (LBS) server device; and

wherein the one or more processors, when processing the base station identifier, are to:

process the base station identifier in a manner that corresponds to a manner in which the LBS server device processes the value of the base station identifier, and at a time that corresponds to a time at which the LBS server device processes the value of the base station identifier.

7. The base station device of claim 1 , wherein the one or more processors, when broadcasting the base station identifier, are to:

broadcast the base station identifier in one or more system information block (SIB) messages.

8. A non-transitory computer-readable medium storing instructions, the instructions comprising:

one or more instructions that, when executed by one or more processors of a base station device, cause the one or more processors to:

broadcast a base station identifier,

the base station identifier being assigned to the base station device, and

the base station identifier being broadcasted in one or more messages that are receivable by permitted user devices;

initiate a timer;

process the base station identifier to generate an altered base station identifier for the base station device based on determining that the timer expired,

the altered base station identifier generated to deter non-permitted user devices from relying on the base station identifier; and

perform one or more actions to cause the altered base station identifier to be broadcasted,

the altered base station identifier being broadcasted in one or more additional messages that are receivable by the permitted user devices.

9. The non-transitory computer-readable medium of claim 8 , wherein the one or more instructions further cause the one or more processors to:

periodically alter a value associated with an expiration of the timer.

10. The non-transitory computer-readable medium of claim 8 , wherein:

the base station identifier includes physical cell identifier associated with a first value, and

the altered base station identifier includes the physical cell identifier associated with a second value,

the second value being different than the first value.

11. The non-transitory computer-readable medium of claim 8 , wherein the base station identifier includes a physical cell identifier, and

wherein the one or more instructions, that cause the one or more processors to process the base station identifier, cause the one or more processors to:

process the base station identifier to generate the altered base station identifier by one or more of:

adding a value to the physical cell identifier,

subtracting a value from the physical cell identifier,

multiplying the physical cell identifier by a value, or

dividing the physical cell identifier by a value.

12. The non-transitory computer-readable medium of claim 8 , wherein a value of the base station identifier is stored in a location-based service (LBS) server device; and

wherein the one or more instructions, that cause the one or more processors to process the base station identifier, cause the one or more processors to:

process the base station identifier in a manner that corresponds to a manner in which the LBS server device processes the value of the base station identifier.

13. The non-transitory computer-readable medium of claim 8 , wherein the one or more instructions, that cause the one or more processors to broadcast the base station identifier, cause the one or more processors to:

broadcast the base station identifier in one or more system information block (SIB) messages.

14. The non-transitory computer-readable medium of claim 8 , wherein a value of the base station identifier is stored in a location-based service (LBS) server device; and

wherein the one or more instructions, that cause the one or more processors to process the base station identifier, cause the one or more processors to:

process the base station identifier at a time that corresponds to a time at which the LBS server device processes the value of the base station identifier.

15. A method, comprising:

broadcasting, by a base station device, a base station identifier,

the base station identifier being assigned to the base station device, and

the base station identifier being broadcasted in one or more messages that are receivable by permitted user devices;

initiating, by the base station device, a timer;

processing, by the base station device, the base station identifier to generate an altered base station identifier for the base station device based on determining that the timer expired,

the altered base station identifier generated to deter non-permitted user devices from relying on the base station identifier; and

performing, by the base station device, one or more actions to cause the altered base station identifier to be broadcasted,

the altered base station identifier being broadcasted in one or more additional messages that are receivable by the permitted user devices.

16. The method of claim 15 , wherein initiating the timer comprises:

setting the timer based on of:

periodicity, or

frequency at which the altered base station identifier is generated.

17. The method of claim 15 , further comprising:

periodically altering a value associated with an expiration of the timer.

18. The method of claim 15 , wherein:

the base station identifier includes physical cell identifier associated with a first value, and

the altered base station identifier includes the physical cell identifier associated with a second value,

the second value being different than the first value.

19. The method of claim 15 , wherein the base station identifier includes a physical cell identifier, and

wherein processing the base station identifier comprises:

processing, by the base station device, the base station identifier to generate the altered base station identifier by one or more of:

adding a value to the physical cell identifier,

subtracting a value from the physical cell identifier,
