Abstract

The invention relates to a fluid pump or rotary cutter having at least one first element ( 9′″, 10 ′″) which can be brought from a transport slate into an operating state by changing at least one mechanical property. Such a pump can, for example, be a blood pump for the medical, microinvasive area. The object of achieving a transition between the transport state and the operating stale which is as comfortable as possible and in so doing leaving a freedom in the design of the corresponding apparatus, in particular of a pump, which is as large as possible, is achieved using the means of the invention in that the first element at least partly comprises a material ( 24, 25, 26, 27 ) or can be filled with a material or material mixture which passes through a chemical reaction, in particular cross-linking, or a crystallization for transition into the operating state.

Claims (25)

1. An intravascular blood pump, comprising:

a catheter having a proximal end and a distal end;

a pump housing coupled to the distal end of the catheter;

a rotor positioned within the pump housing, the rotor comprising a hub and at least one impeller blade extending from the hub, the rotor having a compressed state and an expanded state;

a drive shaft extending through the catheter and coupled to the rotor, wherein the drive shaft is configured to rotatably drive the rotor;

wherein the at least one impeller blade is coupled to the hub by a joint, and wherein the joint is configured to undergo a material conversion.

2. The intravascular blood pump of claim 1 , wherein the rotor is configured to move from the compressed state to the expanded state in response to the joint undergoing the material conversion.

3. The intravascular blood pump of claim 2 , wherein the joint comprises a material which undergoes a material conversion in response to a stimuli.

4. The intravascular blood pump of claim 3 , wherein the at least one impeller blade is configured to radially expand from the hub in response to material conversion of the joint.

5. The intravascular blood pump of claim 3 , wherein the joint is configured to be stiffened during material conversion.

6. The intravascular blood pump of claim 3 , wherein the joint is configured to be enlarged during material conversion.

7. The intravascular blood pump of claim 3 , wherein the joint is configured to lengthen during material conversion.

8. The intravascular blood pump of claim 3 , wherein the joint is configured to shorten during material conversion.

9. The intravascular blood pump of claim 1 , wherein the joint is formed within a region of the at least one impeller blade.

10. The intravascular blood pump of claim 9 , wherein the joint is formed within a distal region of the at least one impeller blade along a length of the hub.

11. The intravascular blood pump of claim 2 , wherein the joint comprises a hollow portion of the at least one impeller blade.

12. The intravascular blood pump of claim 11 , wherein the hollow portion of the at least one impeller blade is configured to be filled with a material.

13. The intravascular blood pump of claim 12 , wherein the hollow portion of the at least one impeller blade is filled with a material that is configured to undergo a material conversion in response to a stimuli.

14. The intravascular blood pump of claim 1 , wherein when the rotor is in the compressed state, the at least one impeller blade is configured to be folded onto the hub.

15. The intravascular blood pump of claim 1 , wherein the rotor is configured to move from the compressed state to the expanded state at least in part due to a rotation of the rotor by the drive shaft.

16. The intravascular blood pump of claim 1 , wherein the rotor is configured to move from the compressed state to the expanded state at least in part due to fluid counterpressure.

17. The intravascular blood pump of claim 1 , wherein the rotor is self-compressible.

18. The intravascular blood pump of claim 1 , wherein the rotor is configured to move from the expanded state to the compressed state in response to the rotor ceasing to rotate.

19. The intravascular blood pump of claim 1 , wherein the pump housing is expandable and compressible.

20. The intravascular blood pump of claim 19 , wherein the pump housing is configured to be in an expanded state when the rotor is in the expanded state, and the pump housing is configured to expand from a compressed state to the expanded state of the pump housing in response to exposure of the pump housing to a stimuli.
