Cell culture
There is described an isolated 3-dimensional liver spheroid wherein said spheroid has: increased ATP content as compared to a 3-dimensional liver spheroid cultured in Complete William's E medium alone; the same or increased activity of cytochrome P450 1A1 and cytochrome P450 1B1 as compared to a 3-dimensional liver spheroid cultured in Complete William's E medium alone; and increased albumin secretion as compared to a 3-dimensional liver spheroid cultured in William's E medium alone.
1. A cell culture comprising a 3-dimensional liver spheroid and a medium comprising a mixture of Complete B-ALI medium and Complete William's E medium, the mixture comprising from 75% to 95% by volume Complete B-ALI Medium with the remaining volume being made up of Complete William's E medium.
2. A 3-dimensional multi-organ culture system comprising a 3-dimensional liver spheroid and a 3-dimensional-lung epithelial spheroid in a culture medium, said culture medium selected from the group consisting of a culture medium comprising or consisting or consisting essentially of a mixture of Complete B-ALI medium and Complete William's E medium, the mixture comprising from 70% to 95% by volume Complete B-ALI Medium with the remaining volume being made up of Complete William's E medium.
3. A method comprising culturing a 3-dimensional liver spheroid, or co-culturing a 3-dimensional liver spheroid and a 3-dimensional lung epithelial spheroid in a medium comprising a mixture of Complete B-ALI medium and Complete William's E medium, the mixture comprising from 70% to 95% by volume Complete B-ALI Medium with the remaining volume being made up of Complete William's E medium.
