Abstract

An organic light-emitting display device includes: first and second pixel electrodes (PEs); a pixel-defining layer (PDL) disposed on the first and second PEs, the pixel-defining layer including first and second openings respectively exposing the first and second PEs; first and second intermediate layers (ILs) respectively disposed on the first and second PEs exposed via the first and second openings, each of the first and second ILs including an emission layer; first and second opposite electrodes (OEs) respectively disposed on the first and second ILs, the first and second OEs having an island-shaped pattern; first and second protective layers (PLs) respectively disposed on the first and second OEs, the first and second PLs having an island-shaped pattern; and a connection layer disposed on the first and second PLs, the connection layer electrically connecting the first and second OEs to one another.

Claims (39)

1. An organic light-emitting display device, comprising:

a transistor;

a pixel electrode electrically connected to the transistor;

a pixel-defining layer on the pixel electrode, the pixel-defining layer comprising:

an opening overlapping a portion of the pixel electrode; and

a bank portion enclosing the opening and covering edges of the pixel electrode;

a multi-layered structure overlapping the portion of the pixel electrode and comprising a functional layer and an emission layer;

an opposite electrode over the multi-layered structure, edges of the opposite electrode being located over the bank portion of the pixel-defining layer; and

a protective layer over the opposite electrode and extending beyond edges of the opposite electrode, edges of the protective layer being located over the bank portion of the pixel-defining layer.

2. The organic light-emitting display device of claim 1 , wherein the protective layer comprises a conductive material.

3. The organic light-emitting display device of claim 2 , wherein the protective layer comprises a transparent conductive oxide.

4. The organic light-emitting display device of claim 3 , wherein the protective layer comprises an amorphous transparent conductive oxide.

5. The organic light-emitting display device of claim 2 , wherein:

the protective layer entirely covers the opposite electrode; and

the edges of the protective layer directly contact the pixel-defining layer.

6. The organic light-emitting display device of claim 2 , wherein the opposite electrode comprises at least one of Ag, Mg, Al, Yb, Ca, Li, and Au.

7. The organic light-emitting display device of claim 2 , further comprising:

a transparent conductive layer over the protective layer.

8. The organic light-emitting display device of claim 7 , wherein a portion of the transparent conductive layer directly contacts the pixel-defining layer.

9. The organic light-emitting display device of claim 1 , further comprising:

an encapsulation layer disposed on the protective layer, the encapsulation layer comprising at least one organic layer and at least one inorganic layer.

10. An organic light-emitting display device, comprising:

a transistor;

a pixel electrode electrically connected to the transistor;

a pixel-defining layer on the pixel electrode and having an opening overlapping a portion of the pixel electrode;

a multi-layered structure overlapping the portion of the pixel electrode and comprising a functional layer and an emission layer;

an opposite electrode over the multi-layered structure, edges of the opposite electrode being located over the pixel-defining layer; and

a protective layer over the opposite electrode and having a hole, the protective layer extending beyond edges of the opposite electrode, edges of the protective layer being located over the pixel-defining layer.

11. The organic light-emitting display device of claim 10 , wherein the protective layer comprises an insulating material.

12. The organic light-emitting display device of claim 10 , wherein the protective layer comprises an inorganic insulating layer.

13. The organic light-emitting display device of claim 12 , wherein the inorganic insulating layer of the protective layer comprises an amorphous insulating inorganic material.

14. The organic light-emitting display device of claim 10 , further comprising:

a conductive layer over the protective layer and electrically connected to the opposite electrode via the hole of the protective layer.

15. The organic light-emitting display device of claim 14 , wherein the conductive layer comprises a transparent conductive oxide.

16. The organic light-emitting display device of claim 14 , wherein a portion of the conductive layer directly contacts the pixel-defining layer.

17. The organic light-emitting display device of claim 10 , wherein the edges of the protective layer directly contact the pixel-defining layer.

18. The organic light-emitting display device of claim 10 , wherein the opposite electrode comprises at least one of Ag, Mg, Al, Yb, Ca, Li, and Au.
