Abstract

Provided herein is a positive temperature coefficient film comprising an inorganic positive temperature coefficient compound. Also provided herein are a positive temperature coefficient electrode, a positive temperature coefficient separator, and a positive temperature coefficient lithium secondary battery, each of which comprises the positive temperature coefficient film.

Claims (15)

1. A positive temperature coefficient (PTC) film comprising a barium titanate and a polyimide, a first layer of the PTC film being disposed on a first surface of a first electroactive layer comprising a battery cell.

2. The PTC film of claim 1 , wherein the inorganic PTC compound is in the form of nanoparticles.

3. The PTC film of claim 1 , wherein the crosslinked polymer is formed in the presence of the barium titanate.

4. The PTC film of claim 1 , further comprising a polyamide-imide, and a polypropylene.

5. The PTC film of claim 1 , further comprising a polyamide-imide.

6. The PTC film of claim 1 , further comprising a polypropylene.

7. The PTC film of claim 1 , further comprising a conductive material.

8. The PTC film of claim 7 , wherein the conductive material is carbon black.

9. The PTC film of claim 1 , further comprising a filler.

10. The PTC film of claim 9 , wherein the filler is a polymer.

11. The PTC film of claim 9 , wherein the filler is polyvinylidene fluoride or styrene butadiene rubber.

12. The PTC film of claim 1 , wherein the film is formed by crosslinking a precursor of the polyimide in the presence of the barium titanate.

13. The PTC film of claim 1 , wherein the PTC film is formed using water as a solvent.

14. The PTC film of claim 1 , wherein a second layer of the PTC film is disposed on a second surface of a current collector coupled with the first electroactive layer, and wherein the first electroactive layer is interposed between the first layer of the PTC film and the second layer of the PTC film to prevent a direct contact between the first electroactive layer and the second electroactive layer.

15. A battery cell, comprising a first electrode, a second electrode, a separator, and an electrolyte, at least one of the first electrode, the second electrode, the separator, and the electrolyte comprising a positive temperature coefficient (PTC) film including a barium titanate and a polyimide.
