Abstract

A respiratory assistance apparatus includes a flow generator and a humidifier. The humidifier includes a humidification chamber. The humidification chamber comprises a water tub that is configured to receive a volume of water. A lid is hingedly coupled to the water tub for enclosing a volume contained within the water tub.

Claims (50)

1. A humidification chamber for humidifying gases, comprising:

a water tub configured to receive a volume of water;

a lid hingedly coupled to the water tub for enclosing the water tub to define the interior volume of the humidification chamber, wherein the lid is movable between a closed position and an open position;

an inlet for receiving a flow of gases into the interior volume of the humidification chamber, the inlet having an associated inlet conduit, wherein the inlet conduit includes a first opening and a second opening, wherein the first opening is located in a perimeter wall of the lid and the second opening is located toward a center of a body of the lid;

an outlet through which a humidified flow of gases may exit the interior volume of the humidification chamber, the outlet having an associated outlet conduit; and

wherein the lid and water tub are integrally formed as a single item.

2. The humidification chamber of claim 1 , wherein the inlet conduit is located at an underside of the lid.

3. The humidification chamber of claim 1 , wherein the inlet conduit is displaced away from an underside of the lid.

4. The humidification chamber of claim 1 , wherein the perimeter wall extends downward from the body.

5. The humidification chamber of claim 1 , wherein the inlet conduit extends parallel to a portion of the perimeter wall.

6. The humidification chamber of claim 1 , wherein the lid and the water tub are hingedly coupled by a living hinge.

7. The humidification chamber of claim 1 , wherein the lid is configured to be pivotable about a hinge located at a rear of the water tub.

8. The humidification chamber of claim 1 , wherein the lid is formed from rigid plastic.

9. The humidification chamber of claim 1 , wherein the outlet conduit is located at an underside of the lid.

10. The humidification chamber of claim 1 , wherein the outlet conduit is displaced away from an underside of the lid.

11. The humidification chamber of claim 1 , wherein the outlet conduit extends parallel to a portion of the perimeter wall.

12. The humidification chamber of claim 1 , wherein the inlet and outlet are provided on opposite sides of the lid.

13. The humidification chamber of claim 1 , wherein the water tub includes a base and a perimeter wall, wherein a surface of the base includes a heater plate.

14. The humidification chamber of claim 13 , wherein the inner surface of the perimeter wall includes a step that has a height that is configured to indicate to a user a maximum fill line of the water tub.

15. The humidification chamber of claim 1 , wherein the lid includes one or more water fill openings.

16. The humidification chamber of claim 15 , wherein the lid includes a tab member viewable through the lid, wherein the tab member is attached to an underside of the lid and is configured to indicate a maximum fill of the water tub.

17. A humidification chamber for humidifying gases, compromising:

a water tub configured to receive a volume of water;

a lid hingedly coupled to the water tub for enclosing the water tub to define the interior volume of the humidification chamber, wherein the lid is movable between a closed position and an open position;

an inlet for receiving a flow of gases into the interior volume of the humidification chamber, the inlet having an associated inlet conduit;

an outlet through which a humidified flow of gases may exit the interior volume of the humidification chamber, the outlet having an associated outlet conduit, wherein the outlet conduit includes a first opening and a second opening, wherein the first opening is located in a perimeter wall of the lid and a second opening is located toward a center portion of a body of the lid.

18. The humidification chamber of claim 17 , wherein the flow of gases enters the second opening of the outlet conduit in a first direction and exits the first opening of the outlet conduit in a second direction.

19. The humidification chamber of claim 18 , wherein the first direction of the flow of gases is perpendicular to the second direction of the flow of gases.

20. The humidification chamber of claim 17 , wherein the inlet conduit is at least located at an underside of the lid or displaced away from an underside of the lid.

21. The humidification chamber of claim 17 , wherein the perimeter wall extends downward from the body.

22. The humidification chamber of claim 17 , wherein at least one of the inlet conduit and the outlet conduit extends parallel to a portion of the perimeter wall.

23. The humidification chamber of claim 17 , wherein the outlet conduit is at least located at an underside of the lid or displaced away from the underside of the lid.

24. The humidification chamber of claim 17 , wherein the inlet and outlet are provided on opposite sides of the lid.

25. The humidification chamber of claim 17 , wherein the water tub includes a base and a perimeter wall, wherein a surface of the base includes a heater plate.

26. The humidification chamber of claim 25 , wherein the inner surface of the perimeter wall includes a step that has a height that is configured to indicate to a user a maximum fill line of the water tub.

27. A humidification chamber for humidifying gases, comprising:

a water tub configured to receive a volume of water;

a lid hingedly coupled to the water tub for enclosing the water tub to define the interior volume of the humidification chamber, wherein the lid is movable between a closed position and an open position;

an inlet for receiving a flow of gases into the interior volume of the humidification chamber, the inlet having an associated inlet conduit, wherein the inlet conduit includes a first opening and a second opening, wherein the first opening is located in a perimeter wall of the lid and the second opening is located toward a center of a body of the lid;

an outlet through which a humidified flow of gases may exit the interior volume of the humidification chamber, the outlet having an associated outlet conduit, wherein the outlet conduit includes a first opening and a second opening, wherein the first opening is located in the perimeter wall of the lid and a second opening is located toward the center of the body of the lid; and

wherein the lid and water tub are integrally formed as a single item.
