Abstract

Waveguides and electromagnetic cavities fabricated in hyperuniform disordered materials with complete photonic bandgaps are provided. Devices comprising electromagnetic cavities fabricated in hyperuniform disordered materials with complete photonic bandgaps are provided. Devices comprising waveguides fabricated in hyperuniform disordered materials with complete photonic bandgaps are provided. The devices include electromagnetic splitters, filters, and sensors.

Claims (2)

1. A plurality of electromagnetic non-linear waveguides, each waveguide fabricated in a hyperuniform disordered photonic material having a complete photonic bandgap, wherein said waveguides are disposed at arbitrary angles to one another and are in electromagnetic communication, wherein said electromagnetic communication takes place at a junction of said waveguides, wherein at least a first and a second of said plurality of waveguides comprise line defects that differ from one another in a way that causes the first and second waveguides to transmit different frequency ranges.

2. The waveguides of claim 1 , wherein said junction comprises an electromagnetic cavity in electromagnetic communication with said waveguides, wherein said cavity has have a localized cavity mode, wherein said localized mode has a pre-selectable symmetry.
