Abstract

Oral care compositions comprising an acidic amino acid and stannous ion source are provided for promoting Gum Health of a user.

Claims (32)

1. A composition comprising:

a. stannous ion source,

b. acidic amino acid, wherein the acidic amino acid comprises aspartic acid, glutamic acid, salts thereof, or combinations thereof,

c. from 10% to 70%, by weight of the composition, of water, and

d. a pH of from about 5.5 to about 7.

2. The composition of claim 1 , wherein the composition comprises from 0 .01% to 5%, by weight of the composition, of the stannous ion source and from 0.01% to 10%, by weight of the composition, of the acidic amino acid wherein the composition is an oral care composition.

The composition of claim 1 , wherein the stannous ion source comprises stannous chloride, stannous fluoride, stannous acetate, stannous gluconate, stannous oxalate, stannous sulfate, stannous lactate, stannous tartrate, stannous iodide, stannous chlorofluoride, stannous hexafluorozirconate, stannous citrate, stannous malate, stannous glycinate, stannous carbonate, stannous phosphate, stannous pyrophosphate, stannous metaphosphate, or combinations thereof.

4. The composition of claim 1 , wherein the composition comprises from 0.1% to 5%, by weight of the composition, of a zinc ion source.

5. The composition of claim 1 , wherein the composition comprises from 0.05% to 4%, by weight of the composition, of a fluoride ion source.

6. The composition of claim 1 , wherein the composition comprises from 0.01% to 5%, by weight of the composition, of thickening polymers, thickening silica, or combinations thereof.

7. The composition of claim 1 , wherein the composition comprises from 1% to 35%, by weight of the composition, of abrasive.

8. The composition of claim 1 , wherein the composition comprises from 1% to 60%, by weight of the composition, of humectant.

9. A method of promoting gum health in a subject comprising administering to the subject's oral cavity a composition according to claim 1 , wherein the administering occurs at least once a day.

10. The composition of claim 3 , wherein the stannous ion source comprises stannous fluoride, stannous chloride, or a combination thereof.

11. The composition of claim 7 , wherein the abrasive comprises silica abrasive, calcium containing abrasive, or a combination thereof.

12. The composition of claim 4 , wherein the zinc ion source comprises zinc chloride, zinc citrate, zinc sulfate, zinc gluconate, zinc lactate, zinc phosphate, zinc oxide, zinc carbonate, or combinations thereof.

13. The composition of claim 12 , wherein the zinc ion source comprises zinc citrate, zinc gluconate, zinc lactate, or combinations thereof.

14. The composition of claim 5 , wherein the fluoride ion source comprises sodium fluoride, stannous fluoride, indium fluoride, amine fluoride, sodium monofluorophosphate, potassium fluoride, zinc fluoride, or combinations thereof.

15. The composition of claim 8 , wherein the humectant comprises sorbitol, glycerin, or a combination thereof.

16. A dentifrice composition comprising:

a. stannous ion source,

b. acidic amino acid, wherein the acidic amino acid comprises aspartic acid, glutamic acid, salts thereof, or combinations thereof,

c. silica abrasive, and

d. a pH of from about 5.5 to about 7, wherein the dentifrice composition is free of a calcium-containing abrasive.

17. The dentifrice composition of claim 16 , wherein the stannous ion source comprises stannous fluoride, stannous chloride, or combinations thereof.

18. The dentifrice composition of claim 16 , wherein the dentifrice composition comprises fluoride ion source.

19. The dentifrice composition of claim 18 , wherein the fluoride ion source comprises sodium fluoride, stannous fluoride, indium fluoride, amine fluoride, sodium monofluorophosphate, potassium fluoride, zinc fluoride, or combinations thereof.

20. The dentifrice composition of claim 16 , wherein the dentifrice composition comprises zinc ion source.

21. The dentrice composition of claim 8 , wherein the zinc ion source comprises zinc chloride, zinc citrate, zinc sulfate, zinc gluconate, zinc lactate, zinc phosphate, zinc oxide, zinc carbonate, or combinations thereof.

22. The dentifrice composition of claim 16 , wherein the dentifrice composition comprises thickening polymers, thickening silica, or combinations thereof.

23. The dentifrice composition of claim 16 , wherein the dentifrice composition comprises humectant.

24. The dentifrice composition of claim 23 , wherein the humectant comprises sorbitol, glycerin, or combinations thereof.
