Abstract

A dentifrice composition having a low water phase comprising effective amounts of polyphosphate and ionic active ingredients.

Claims (14)

1. A dentifrice composition comprising:

a coloring agent;

a crosslinked polyvinyl pyrrolidone;

at least one humectant; and

an orally acceptable vehicle, wherein the vehicle comprises a thickening agent comprising, in combination, a cross-linked polyvinylpyrrolidone present in an amount of about 0.75 to 1.25 wt % of the composition and xanthan gum present in an amount from about 0.2 to 0.3 wt % of the composition;

wherein the composition comprises water; and

wherein the dentifrice composition has a total water content of less than about 10% based on the weight of the composition.

2. The dentifrice composition of claim 1 , wherein the coloring agent is FD&C Blue#1.

3. The dentifrice composition of claim 1 , wherein the total water content is of less than about 6% based on the weight of the composition.

4. The dentifrice composition of claim 1 , wherein the humectant is selected from the group consisting of glycerin, glycerol, polyethylene glycol, sorbitol propylene glycol.

5. The dentifrice composition of claim 1 , wherein the humectant is glycerol.

6. The dentifrice composition of claim 2 , wherein the coloring agent is in amount from 0.01% to 5% by weight, based on the weight of the composition.

7. The dentifrice composition of claim 1 , further comprising additional agents selected from fluoride salts, one or more of an abrasive, a surfactant, an enzyme, a thickener, an antimicrobial agent, a flavoring agent, and a combination of two or more thereof.

8. The dentifrice composition of claim 1 , wherein the composition is a toothpaste, a paste, a gel, and may be in form of a deep striped, a surface striped, a multilayered, having the gel surrounding the paste, or any combination thereof.
