Abstract

An air conditioner and a control method thereof perform cooling through an outlet if room temperature or room humidity is high to reduce the room temperature or the room humidity, and closing the outlet to perform cooling at low velocity through an outlet hole if room temperature or room humidity reaches a predetermined value so that a user can little feel the wind velocity of cooling of the air conditioner, while maintaining indoor space at pleasant temperature or humidity. By performing cooling at low velocity through the outlet hole formed in the lower portion of the air conditioner, it is possible to cool the lower area of indoor space at pleasant temperature when a user is asleep.

Claims (26)

1. An air conditioner comprising:

a housing;

a heat exchanger configured to exchange heat with air inside of the housing;

a fan configured to move the heat exchanged air to be discharged to an outside of the housing;

an outlet configured to discharge the heat exchanged air to the outside of the housing;

a door configured to open or close the outlet;

a guide body having one side facing the outlet, forming a discharge path between the fan and the outlet, and having a cylindrical shape;

a guide groove provided along a circumference of the guide body and configured to guide the heat exchanged air to be discharged to the outside of the housing; and

a controller configured to:

control the door to close the outlet when a temperature of an area reaches a predetermined value, and

control the fan, while the outlet is closed by the door, to reduce Revolutions Per Minute (RPM) of the fan so that the heat exchanged air is discharged through the guide groove at a predetermined wind velocity.

2. The air conditioner according to claim 1 , wherein while the temperature of the area is lower than the predetermined value, the controller reduces Revolutions Per Minute (RPM) of the fan to reduce the predetermined wind velocity of the heat exchanged air discharged through the guide groove.

3. The air conditioner according to claim 1 , wherein the controller adjusts Revolutions Per Minute (RPM) of the fan such that a velocity of the heat exchanged air discharged through the guide groove while the outlet is closed is lower than a velocity at which the heat exchanged air is discharged through the outlet while the outlet is open.

4. An air conditioner comprising:

a housing;

a heat exchanger configured to exchange heat with air in the housing;

a fan configured to move the heat exchanged air to discharge the heat exchanged air to an outside of the housing;

an outlet configured to discharge the heat exchanged air to the outside of the housing;

a door configured to open or close the outlet;

a guide body having one side facing the outlet, forming a discharge path between the fan and the outlet, and having a cylindrical shape;

a guide groove provided along a circumference of the guide body and configured to guide the air to be discharged to the outside of the housing; and

a controller configured to:

control the door to close the outlet when a humidity of a room reaches a predetermined value, and

control the fan, while the outlet is closed by the door, to reduce a rotation velocity of the fan so that the heat exchanged air discharged through the guide groove at a predetermined wind velocity.

5. The air conditioner according to claim 4 , wherein while the humidity of the room is lower than the predetermined value, the controller reduces Revolutions Per Minute (RPM) of the fan to reduce the predetermined wind velocity of the heat exchanged air discharged through to the guide groove.

6. The air conditioner according to claim 4 , wherein the controller adjusts Revolutions Per Minute (RPM) of the fan such that a velocity of the heat exchanged air discharged through the guide groove while the outlet is closed is lower than a velocity at which the heat exchanged air is discharged through the outlet while the outlet is open.
