Abstract

A robot cleaner for avoiding a stuck situation using artificial intelligence includes a sensing unit configured to detect the stuck situation of the robot cleaner, a driving unit to drive the robot cleaner, and a processor configured to determine a rotation angle of the robot cleaner when the stuck situation is detected through the sensing unit, control the driving unit such that the robot cleaner rotates by the determined rotation angle, and control the driving unit such that the robot cleaner reverses by a certain distance after rotating by the rotation angle.

Claims (37)

1. A robot cleaner, comprising:

a sensing unit including at least one sensor, and configured to detect a stuck situation of the robot cleaner;

a driving unit to drive the robot cleaner; and

a processor configured to:

determine a rotation angle of the robot cleaner when the stuck situation is detected through the sensing unit,

control the driving unit such that the robot cleaner rotates by the determined rotation angle,

control the driving unit such that the robot cleaner reverses by a certain distance after rotating by the rotation angle, and

generate a virtual wall at a front position of the robot cleaner and reflect the virtual wall on a cleaning map, after the robot cleaner reverses by the certain distance.

2. The robot cleaner of claim 1 , wherein the processor measures a current traveling angle of the robot cleaner at a time point when the stuck situation is detected and determines the rotation angle based on the measured current traveling angle and a plurality of traveling angles measured at a plurality of time points before the stuck situation is detected.

3. The robot cleaner of claim 2 , wherein the processor obtains a value obtained by subtracting an average angle of the plurality of traveling angles from the current traveling angle and determines the value as the rotation angle of the robot cleaner.

4. The robot cleaner of claim 3 , wherein each of traveling speeds of the robot cleaner measured at the plurality of time points is equal to or greater than a threshold speed.

5. The robot cleaner of claim 1 ,

wherein the sensing unit includes a bumper sensor configured to measure an amount of impact applied to a bumper provided in the robot cleaner and generate a bumper event when the amount of impact is equal to or greater than a predetermined amount of impact, and

wherein the processor determines that the robot cleaner is in the stuck situation when the number of bumper events is equal to or greater than a predetermined number.

6. The robot cleaner of claim 1 ,

wherein the driving unit includes a left wheel motor for driving a left wheel and a right wheel motor for driving a right wheel, and

wherein the processor controls the left wheel motor and the right wheel motor such that the robot cleaner rotates by the determined rotation angle.

7. The robot cleaner of claim 1 , wherein the processor controls the driving unit such that the robot cleaner reversely rotates by the determined rotation angle.

8. The robot cleaner of claim 1 , wherein the generated virtual wall is generated into an area including a line connecting a center of an obstacle and a traveling path of the robot cleaner.

9. A method of operating a robot cleaner, the method comprising:

detecting a stuck situation while the robot cleaner travels;

determining a rotation angle of the robot cleaner when the stuck situation is detected;

rotating the robot cleaner by the determined rotation angle;

reversing the robot cleaner by a certain distance after rotating the robot cleaner by the rotation angle; and

generating a virtual wall at a front position of the robot cleaner and reflecting the virtual wall on a cleaning map, after the robot cleaner reverses by the certain distance.

10. The method of claim 9 , wherein the determining of the rotation angle includes:

measuring a current traveling angle of the robot cleaner at a time point when the stuck situation is detected; and

determining the rotation angle based on the measured current traveling angle and a plurality of traveling angles measured at a plurality of time points before the stuck situation is detected.

11. The method of claim 10 , wherein the determining of the rotation angle includes:

obtaining a value obtained by subtracting an average angle of the plurality of traveling angles from the current traveling angle, and determining the obtained value as the rotation angle.

12. The method of claim 11 , wherein each of traveling speeds of the robot cleaner measured at the plurality of time points is equal to or greater than a threshold speed.

13. The method of claim 9 , wherein the detecting of the stuck situation includes:

measuring an amount of impact applied to a bumper provided in the robot cleaner;

generating a bumper event when the amount of impact is equal to or greater than a predetermined amount of impact; and

determining that the robot cleaner is in the stuck situation when the number of bumper events is equal to or greater than a predetermined number.

14. The method of claim 9 , wherein the rotating of the robot cleaner includes reversely rotating the robot cleaner by the determined rotation angle.

15. The method of claim 9 , wherein the generated virtual wall is generated into an area including a line connecting a center of an obstacle and a traveling path of the robot cleaner.
