Abstract

A system that incorporates aspects of the subject disclosure may perform operations including, for example, obtaining performance parameters in a communications network, identifying a degradation in performance of one or more nodes of the communications network according the monitored performance parameters, and initiating corrective action to mitigate the degradation in performance of the one or more nodes of the communications network. Other embodiments are disclosed.

Claims (46)

1. A device, comprising:

a processing system for a cell site, wherein the processing system includes a processor; and

a memory that stores executable instructions that, when executed by the processing system, facilitate performance of operations, comprising:

determining that a signal to interference noise ratio (SINR) measurement is below a threshold, wherein the SINR measurement comprises a measurement of a SINR of a sector of the cell site;

sending a request for SINR measurements for a neighboring cell site;

receiving the SINR measurements for the neighboring cell site responsive to the request;

selecting a corrective action for attempting to improve the SINR of the sector of the cell site, wherein the corrective action is selected based on the SINR measurements for the neighboring cell site;

initiating the corrective action; and

receiving a communication from a server in communication with equipment of the cell site and equipment of the neighboring cell site, wherein the communication comprises a command to at least partially reverse the corrective action.

2. The device of claim 1 , wherein the server is part of a centralized system that is in communication with the equipment of the cell site and equipment of the neighboring cell site.

3. The device of claim 1 , wherein the equipment of the cell site comprises the processing system.

4. The device of claim 1 , wherein the corrective action is one of filtering adjacent signals, adding gain, attenuating high signal power, filtering interference signals, utilizing diversity optimization, utilizing service optimization, adjusting mobile transmit parameters, tilting antennas, or a combination thereof.

5. The device of claim 1 , wherein the operations further comprise determining whether the corrective action has improved the SINR of the sector of the cell site.

6. The device of claim 5 , wherein the operations further comprise determining, responsive to a determination that the corrective action has improved the SINR of the sector of the cell site, whether the corrective action has reduced an SINR parameter for the neighboring cell site to below a second threshold.

7. The device of claim 5 , wherein the operations further comprise reversing the corrective action responsive to a determination that the corrective action has not improved the SINR of the sector of the cell site.

8. The device of claim 1 , wherein the sector is one of a plurality of sectors of the cell site comprises a plurality of sectors of the cell site, wherein the operations further comprise:

determining a plurality of SINR measurements comprising a respective SINR measurement for each of a plurality of sectors of the cell site; and

determining to attempt to improve the SINR of the sector responsive to a determination that a lowest SINR measurement among the plurality of SINR measurements corresponds to the SINR of the sector.

9. A non-transitory machine-readable storage medium, comprising executable instructions that, when executed by a processing system including a processor, facilitate performance of operations, comprising:

determining a plurality of signal to interference noise ratio (SINR) measurements comprising a respective SINR measurement for each of a plurality of sectors of a cell site;

identifying a lowest SINR measurement among the plurality of SINR measurements, wherein the lowest SINR measurement corresponds to an SINR of a sector among the plurality of sectors;

determining to attempt to improve the SINR of the sector responsive to a determination that the lowest SINR measurement is below a threshold;

sending a request for SINR measurements for a neighboring cell site;

receiving the SINR measurements for the neighboring cell site responsive to the request;

selecting a corrective action for attempting to improve the SINR of the sector, wherein the corrective action is selected based on the SINR measurements for the neighboring cell site;

initiating the corrective action; and

receiving a communication from a server in communication with equipment of the cell site and equipment of the neighboring cell site, wherein the communication comprises a command to at least partially reverse the corrective action.

10. The non-transitory machine-readable storage medium of claim 9 , wherein the receiving the communication from the server comprises receiving the communication from a centralized system that is in communication with the equipment of the cell site and equipment of the neighboring cell site.

11. The non-transitory machine-readable storage medium of claim 9 , wherein the equipment of the cell site comprises the processing system.

12. The non-transitory machine-readable storage medium of claim 9 , wherein the corrective action is one of filtering adjacent signals, adding gain, attenuating high signal power, filtering interference signals, utilizing diversity optimization, utilizing service optimization, adjusting mobile transmit parameters, tilting antennas, or a combination thereof.

13. The non-transitory machine-readable storage medium of claim 9 , wherein the operations further comprise determining whether the corrective action has improved the SINR of the neighboring cell site.

14. The non-transitory machine-readable storage medium of claim 9 , wherein the operations further comprise determining whether the corrective action has improved the SINR of the sector of the cell site.

15. The non-transitory machine-readable storage medium of claim 14 , wherein the operations further comprise determining, responsive to a determination that the corrective action has improved the SINR of the sector of the cell site, whether the corrective action has reduced an SINR parameter for the neighboring cell site to below a second threshold.

16. A method, comprising:

determining, by a processing system including a processor, a plurality of signal to interference noise ratio (SINR) measurements comprising a respective SINR measurement for each of a plurality of sectors of a cell site;

identifying, by the processing system, a lowest SINR measurement among the plurality of SINR measurements, wherein the lowest SINR measurement corresponds to an SINR of a sector among the plurality of sectors;

determining, by the processing system, to attempt to improve the SINR of the sector responsive to a determination that the lowest SINR measurement is below a threshold;

selecting, by the processing system, a corrective action for attempting to improve the SINR of the sector, wherein the corrective action is selected based on SINR measurements for a neighboring cell site;
