Abstract

An implant assembly for introducing and positioning implants within patients may comprise an implant device, an implant, and a sheath. The implant device may include a head, an upper beam, a lower beam, and an implant positioning component. The implant may be disposed between the upper beam and the lower beam and may include a first face engaged with the upper beam and a second face engaged with the lower beam. Additionally, the implant may be at least partially disposed around the implant positioning component. The sheath may be disposed around the implant positioning device and the implant.

Claims (42)

1. An implant delivery device for delivering a sheet-like implant, the implant delivery device comprising:

an outer tubular shaft with a distal end and a proximal end;

an inner elongate shaft having a distal end and a proximal end,

wherein the inner elongate shaft is slidably disposed within the outer tubular shaft,

a sheath coupled to the distal end of the outer tubular shaft, the sheath configured to extend around and move axially over a portion of the inner elongate shaft, the sheath having a plurality of holes extending through a sidewall of the sheath into an interior of the sheath, the sheath having a tapered proximal end spaced apart distally from the distal end of the outer tubular shaft;

a handle disposed near the proximal end of the inner elongate shaft and the proximal end of the outer tubular shaft, wherein the handle is operatively connected to the inner elongate shaft and the outer tubular shaft;

a trigger operatively connected to the handle, wherein actuation of the trigger causes the outer tubular shaft to move proximally relative to the inner elongate shaft; and

an implant device including an implant positioning component coupled to the inner elongate shaft.

2. The implant delivery device of claim 1 , wherein the implant positioning component includes a plurality of flexible arms configured to engage a sheet-like implant.

3. The implant delivery device of claim 2 , wherein the plurality of flexible arms are elastically deformed to fit within the sheath.

4. The implant delivery device of claim 3 , wherein the implant positioning component includes a lower beam.

5. The implant delivery device of claim 4 , wherein the implant positioning component includes an upper beam.

6. The implant delivery device of claim 5 , wherein the lower beam and the upper beam retain the sheet-like implant therebetween when the sheet-like implant is positioned between the upper beam and the lower beam.

7. The implant delivery device of claim 6 , further comprising the sheet-like implant furled around the implant positioning component in a first delivery configuration.

8. The implant delivery device of claim 7 , wherein the sheet-like implant and the implant positioning component are contained within the sheath in the first delivery configuration.

9. The implant delivery device of claim 8 , wherein when the trigger is actuated, the implant delivery device transitions from the first delivery configuration to a second deployed configuration.

10. The implant delivery device of claim 9 , wherein the sheet-like implant is unfurled in the second deployed configuration with the plurality of flexible arms.

11. The implant delivery device of claim 10 , wherein the sheath, the implant device, and the sheet-like implant form an implant cartridge.

12. The implant delivery device of claim 11 , wherein the implant cartridge is releasably coupled to the distal end of the outer tubular shaft, wherein the implant cartridge includes a head configured and adapted to releasably couple the implant cartridge to the distal end of the outer tubular shaft.

13. An implant delivery device for delivering a sheet-like implant, the implant delivery device comprising:

a handle assembly;

an outer tubular shaft extending distally from the handle assembly;

an inner elongate shaft extending distally from the handle assembly through the outer tubular shaft,

wherein the inner elongate shaft is longitudinally movable relative to the outer tubular shaft,

an implant cartridge comprising:

a sheath coupled to a distal end of the outer tubular shaft, the sheath configured to extend around and move axially over a portion of the inner elongate shaft, the sheath having a plurality of holes extending through a sidewall of the sheath into an interior of the sheath, the sheath having a tapered proximal end spaced apart distally from the distal end of the outer tubular shaft; and

an implant device including an implant positioning component coupled to the inner elongate shaft.

14. The implant delivery device of claim 13 , wherein the implant positioning component includes a plurality of flexible arms configured engage a sheet-like implant.

15. The implant delivery device of claim 14 , wherein the plurality of flexible arms are elastically deformed to fit within the sheath.

16. The implant delivery device of claim 15 , wherein the implant positioning component includes a lower beam and an upper beam.

17. The implant delivery device of claim 16 , wherein the implant cartridge further includes a sheet-like implant;

wherein the sheet-like implant is positioned between the upper beam and the lower beam.

18. The implant delivery device of claim 17 , wherein the plurality of flexible arms engage a first face of the sheet-like implant.

19. The implant delivery device of claim 13 , wherein the implant cartridge is releasably coupled to the distal end of the outer tubular shaft, wherein the implant cartridge includes a head configured and adapted to releasably couple the implant cartridge to the distal end of the outer tubular shaft.

20. An implant delivery device for delivering a sheet-like implant, the implant delivery device comprising:

an outer tubular shaft with a distal end and a proximal end;

an inner elongate shaft having a distal end and a proximal end,

wherein the inner elongate shaft is slidably disposed within the outer tubular shaft,

a sheath coupled to the distal end of the outer tubular shaft, the sheath having an outer diameter greater than an outer diameter of the outer tubular shaft and a tapered proximal end tapering to a smaller diameter in a proximal direction toward the distal end of the outer tubular shaft, the tapered proximal end spaced apart distally from the distal end of the outer tubular shaft, the sheath having a plurality of holes extending through a sidewall of the sheath into an interior of the sheath;

a handle disposed near the proximal end of the inner elongate shaft and the proximal end of the outer tubular shaft, wherein the handle is operatively connected to the inner elongate shaft and the outer tubular shaft;

a trigger operatively connected to the handle, wherein actuation of the trigger causes the outer tubular shaft to move proximally relative to the inner elongate shaft; and

an implant device including an implant positioning component coupled to the inner elongate shaft.
