Abstract

In a first aspect, a system for playing a video game is provided that includes (1) one or more sensors adapted to monitor one or more biometric parameters of a user and communicate the one or more monitored biometric parameters (MBPs); (2) a computing device adapted to communicate with the one or more sensors and to receive the one or more communicated MBPs; and (3) a video game having an avatar adapted to move an object on an incline, the video game adapted to execute on the computing device. The video game is adapted to control the avatar to perform an action in the video game based in part on the received one or more communicated MBPs. Numerous other aspects are provided.

Claims (37)

1. A system for encouraging exercise comprising:

one or more sensors adapted to monitor locations of a user and communicate information indicative of the user's changing location;

a computing device adapted to communicate with the one or more sensors and to receive the user location information; and

a video game having an avatar adapted to carry an object, the video game adapted to execute on the computing device,

wherein the video game is adapted to control the avatar to perform an action in the video game based in part on the received user location information;

wherein play of the video game is enhanced by the user moving to specified locations; and

wherein the computing device is adapted to be transported during execution of the video game.

2. The system of claim 1 , wherein the one or more sensors are configured to monitor the user's changing location in at least one of a park, a track and a gym.

3. The system of claim 1 , wherein video game play is enhanced by blocking progress of another player's avatar.

4. The system of claim 1 , wherein a specific location is a physical user location.

5. The system of claim 1 , wherein the video game is adapted to control the avatar to perform an action in the video game in response to a length of time a user performs an exercise.

6. The system of claim 1 , wherein the video game is adapted to determine a type of exercise the user performs and wherein the video game is adapted to control the avatar to perform an action in response to the type of exercise.

7. The system of claim 1 , wherein the video game is adapted to control the avatar to perform an action in response to acceleration of the user.

8. An application executable on a computing device, comprising:

a program configured to be stored in a computing device and that when executed by the computing device causes the computing to:

determine user location information;

monitor changes in user location based on the determined user location information;

provide a video game having an avatar adapted to carry an object, the video game adapted to execute on the computing device; and

control the avatar to perform an action in the video game based in part on the determined user location information, wherein play of the video game is enhanced by a user moving to specific locations;

wherein the computing device is adapted to be transported during execution of the video game.

9. The application of claim 8 , wherein video game play is enhanced by blocking progress of another player's avatar.

10. The application of claim 8 , wherein a specific location is a physical user location.

11. The application of claim 8 , wherein the application is configured to monitor a location of the user in at least one of a park, a track and a gym.

12. The application of claim 8 , wherein the video game is adapted to control the avatar to perform an action in response to a length of time a user performs an exercise.

13. The application of claim 8 , wherein the video game is adapted to determine a type of exercise the user is performing and wherein the video game is adapted to control the avatar to perform an action in response to the type of exercise.

14. The application of claim 8 , wherein the video game is adapted to control the avatar to perform an action in response to acceleration of the user.

15. A method of encouraging exercise comprising:

providing a video game for use on a computing device, the video game having an avatar adapted to carry an object;

using the computing device to determine user location information;

using the computing device to monitor changes in user location based on the determined user location information; and

controlling the avatar of the video game to perform an action in the video game based in part on the determined user location information, wherein play of the video game is enhanced by a user moving to different specific locations;

wherein the computing device is adapted to be transported during execution of the video game.

16. The method of claim 15 , wherein the video game is configured to monitor a location of the user in at least one of a park, a track and a gym.

17. The method of claim 15 , wherein the video game is adapted to control the avatar to perform an action in response to a length of time a user performs an exercise.

18. The method of claim 15 , wherein the video game is adapted to determine a type of exercise the user is performing and wherein the video game is adapted to control the avatar to perform an action in response to the type of exercise.

19. The method of claim 15 , wherein the video game is adapted to control the avatar to perform an action in response to acceleration of the user.

20. The method of claim 15 , wherein video game play is enhanced by blocking progress of another player's avatar.
