Mangiferin-containing compositions for improving sports performance
A method for enhancing at least one of alertness, attention, concentration and memory in a person in need thereof, comprising co-administering an effective amount of mangiferin, norathyriol, or an extract comprising mangiferin or norathyriol; and caffeine to the person. The components may be co-administered in a single composition, or administered in separate compositions. The mangiferin and/or norathyriol exhibit synergistic effects on brain wave activity when co-administered with caffeine.
1. A method for enhancing sports performance in a person in need thereof, comprising administering to said person:
a) an effective amount of mangiferin, or norathyriol, or of a botanical extract comprising mangiferin or norathyriol; and
b) an effective amount of caffeine,
wherein:
said effective amount of said mangiferin or said norathyriol is between 15 mg and 20 g per dose; or
said effective amount of said botanical extract comprising mangiferin or norathyriol is sufficient to provide between 15 mg and 20 g mangiferin or norathyriol per dose.
2. The method according to claim 1 , wherein said administering comprises administering a single composition comprising an effective amount of mangiferin or an extract comprising mangiferin; and an effective amount of caffeine.
3. The method according to claim 1 , wherein said administering comprises administering a first composition comprising an effective amount of mangiferin or an botanical extract comprising mangiferin; and a second composition comprising an effective amount of caffeine.
4. A method for enhancing sports performance in a person in need thereof, comprising administering to said person:
a) an effective amount of mangiferin, norathyriol, or a botanical extract comprising mangiferin or norathyriol; and
b) an effective amount of caffeine,
wherein said administering further comprises administering an extract of Cyperus esculentus peel, Cyperus esculentus rhizomes, or a combination thereof.
5. The method according to claim 2 , wherein said single composition further comprises an extract of Cyperus esculentus peel, Cyperus esculentus rhizomes, or a combination thereof.
6. The method according to claim 3 , wherein:
said first composition further comprises an extract of Cyperus esculentus peel, Cyperus esculentus rhizomes, or a combination thereof;
said second composition further comprises an extract of Cyperus esculentus peel, Cyperus esculentus rhizomes, or a combination thereof; or
said administering further comprises administering a third composition comprising an extract of Cyperus esculentus peel, Cyperus esculentus rhizomes, or a combination thereof.
7. A method for enhancing sports performance in a person in need thereof, comprising administering to said person:
a) an effective amount of mangiferin, norathyriol, or a botanical extract comprising mangiferin or norathyriol;
b) an effective amount of caffeine; and
c) a hydroalcoholic extract of peel of Cyperus esculentus rhizomes.
8. The method according to claim 1 , wherein:
the botanical extract comprising mangiferin or norathyriol comprises a defined content of mangiferin or norathyriol.
9. The method according to claim 8 , wherein the botanical extract comprising mangiferin or norathyriol comprises the defined content of mangiferin or norathyriol, the defined content of mangiferin or norathyriol being between 10% and 99% by weight of the extract.
10. The method according to claim 8 , wherein the botanical extract comprising mangiferin or norathyriol comprises the defined content of mangiferin or norathyriol, the defined content of mangiferin or norathyriol being about 60% by weight of the extract.

The method according to claim 1 , wherein said botanical extract comprising mangiferin or norathyriol is a mangiferin-containing extract of a plant species in a genus selected from the group consisting of Mangifera, Salacia, Cyclopia, Hypericum, Canscora, Fagraea, Gentiana, Hoppea, Swertia, Hypericum, Polygala, Zizyphus , and mixtures thereof.
12. The method according to claim 1 , wherein the ratio of a) to b) is between about 20:1 and about 200:1.
13. The method according to claim 12 , wherein the ratio of a) to b) is between about 40:1 and about 150:1.
14. The method according to claim 13 , wherein the ratio of a) to b) is between about 50:1 and about 100:1.
15. The method according to claim 1 , wherein said effective amount of said caffeine is between 0.1 mg and 1 g per dose.

The method according to claim 1 , wherein said composition further comprises an active ingredient selected from the group consisting of: B group vitamins, citicoline, citrulline, choline, curcumin, huperzine, luteolin, ursolic acid, ibogaine, magnesium, N-methyltyramine, oleamide, omega-3 fatty acids, octopamine, phosphatidylserine, quercetin, rutin, resveratrol, synephrine, taurine, taxifoline, theanine, theobromine, xanthohumol, yangonin, yohimbine, ecdysteroids (20HE) extracts of plant species of the genera Aframomum, Aloysia, Alpinia, Astragalus, Bacopa, Centella, Citrus, Coca, Cola, Curcuma, Coffea, Celastrus, Camellia, Eleutherococcus, Ephedra, Euterpe, Garcinia, Ginkgo, Ganoderma, Glycyrrhiza, Icarine, Ilex, Irvingia, Kaempferia, Ocimum, Paullinia, Panax, Pfaffia, Piper Pueraria, Rhodiola, Rhaponticum, Sida, Sideritis, Tabernanthe, Theobroma, Vitis, Withania, Zingiber, Zizyphus , and mixtures thereof.
17. The method according to claim 1 , wherein said administration further comprises the administration of an active ingredient selected from the group consisting of luteolin, quercetin, rutin, Rhodiola, Coffea and mixtures thereof.
18. The method according to claim 1 , wherein said method for enhancing sports performance is for enhancing reaction time, endurance, athletic performance, muscle health and/or recovery.
19. The method according to claim 1 , wherein said method is for enhancing sports performance in training and endurance.
