Abstract

This disclosure relates to systems and methods of towing, hitching, and connecting devices. In particular, this disclosure relates to tow devices, hitches, and connections for towing item containers behind vehicles, both autonomous and manually guided.

Claims (30)

1. A tow hitch configured to releasably couple to a wire container, the tow hitch comprising:

a main body, the main body having a first end and a second end;

a hitch receiver disposed on the first end;

a locking member, wherein the locking member comprises an actuator that is configured to selectively move from a locked position to an unlocked position;

two first flanges disposed on the second end of the main body; and

two second flanges disposed on the second end of the main body.

2. The tow hitch of claim 1 , further comprising a hook disposed on a surface of the main body, enabling the tow hitch to be hung for storage.

3. The tow hitch of claim 1 , wherein the hitch receiver comprises a cylindrical cross section.

4. The tow hitch of claim 1 , wherein the hitch receiver comprises an aperture that extends a length of the hitch receiver.

5. The tow hitch of claim 1 , wherein the two first flanges each comprise a horizontal portion that is parallel to a bottom surface of the main body.

6. The tow hitch of claim 1 , wherein the two second flanges each comprise a single member that extends away from a bottom surface of the main body at an angle.

7. The tow hitch of claim 1 , wherein the locking member comprises an engagement portion configured to interface with a mating portion of a tow device when the actuator is in the locked position and is configured to not interface with the mating portion of the tow device when the actuator is in the unlocked position.

8. The tow device of claim 7 , wherein the actuator is biased to the locked position.

9. The tow hitch of claim 1 , wherein the hitch receiver extends through the main body.

10. The tow hitch of claim 1 , wherein the first end of the main body is narrower than the second end of the main body.

11. A tow device configured to releasably couple to a container, the tow device comprising:

a main body having a first end and a second end;

a hitch receiver disposed on the first end;

a locking member, wherein the locking member comprises an actuator and an engagement portion, the actuator configured to be manipulated to move the engagement portion between a locked position and an unlocked position;

a first flange disposed on the second end; and

a second flange disposed on the second end.

12. The tow device of claim 11 , further comprising a plurality of first flanges.

13. The tow device of claim 11 , further comprising a plurality of second flanges.

14. The tow device of claim 11 , further comprising a hook configured to be used to hang the tow device.

15. The tow device of claim 11 , wherein the first flange comprises a horizontal portion that is parallel to a bottom surface of the main body.

16. The tow device of claim 15 , wherein the first flange comprises a curved portion connecting the horizontal portion to the main body.

17. The tow device of claim 11 , wherein the second flange extends away from a bottom surface of the main body at an angle.

18. The tow device of claim 11 , wherein the first end of the main body is narrower than the second end of the main body.

19. The tow device of claim 11 , wherein the engagement portion is biased to the locked position.

20. The tow device of claim 11 , wherein the actuator is a lever.
